Italian auto major, Fiat has been building up the buzz around its new sedan model, named as the Fiat Cronos. Fiat has been releasing teasers of the new Cronos on the social media platform. The company has also revealed how the new sedan model looks. As is already known, the new Cronos is the sedan avatar of the new Fiat Argo hatchback model. As per the new reports, the soon to launch Fiat Cronos will be fighting it out with the new upcoming Volkswagen Virtus in South America.
Volkswagen has recently revealed its new Virtus sedan that is based on the Polo hatchback and just like the new Fiat Cronos, is also set to launch in the car market of South America market soon. The 2018 Fiat Cronos is also expected to launch in the car market of India, as it is similar to the South American car markets. Thus, like its hatch sibling Argo, the Cronos is also expected to land up on our shores sometime in 2018-19. If and when the Cronos comes to our market, it will be locking its horns with the likes of the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and the likes.
When exterior design language is concerned, the brand new Fiat Cronos sedan looks similar to its hatchback twin Argo, but of course gets its own individual styling elements to mark itself apart. The similarities are very apparent in the aggressive stylized elements including the sleek headlamps and the sculpted bonnet design. The unique design elements on the Cronos come in the form of a new front radiator grille and more stylish and bolder bumper with prominent creases. Moreover, the Cronos is not a simply booted version of the Argo hatch and doesn’t look disproportionate like many of the hatchback turned sedan models. The Fiat Cronos looks like a very attractive, contemporary sedan well with a very well integrated booth, making it very well-proportionate.
All the careful design changes and additions have made the Cronos look sportier than the Argo, while also offering a distinct visual appeal. Fiat has also endowed the new Cronos with newly designed diamond cut alloy wheels and gorgeous LED tail lights which are reminiscent of Audi models.
Fiat has not yet revealed the cabin of the new Fiat Cronos. It is expected to offer a similar cabin layout as that of the Argo, while also sharing the features list with its hatch sibling. However, the sedan will be more premium on the inside and would also offer more features than its hatchback twin.
Under the hood, the Cronos sedan will be packing in a 1.3 litre petrol and a 1.8 litre flex-fuel mill option. The smaller petrol engine will offer 109 PS and is paired to a 5 speed manual transmission. The flex-fuel unit pumps out a max power of 139 PS and is mated with a 6 speed automatic transmission gearbox.
The 2018 Fiat Cronos will be manufactured at Fiat’s Cordoba facility in Argentina. The new sedan will launch in the South American market first, followed by other global markets.
