American auto major, Ford has officially revealed a new, more muscular and off-road ready variant of the popular EcoSport subcompact SUV. Named as the Ford EcoSport Storm, the new more aggressive compact SUV has been introduced in the car markets of South America. We already had quite some details about the new EcoSport Storm, as Ford had teased this new variant some time back, followed by which some images and specs got leaked out online.
The top attraction of the new EcoSport Storm, apart from its bolder visual appeal is its All 4 Wheel Drive system, a detail that got leaked out prior to its official unveiling. The AWD system of this variant is meant to offer better traction and makes it a true off-road capable mini SUV rather than an urban soft-roader. The EcoSport Storm gets powered by a 2.0 litre engine is capable of running on petrol or ethanol and offers different power figures depending on the type of fuel used. When running on petrol the engine is capable of offering peak power of 170 hp and top torque of 202 Nm. On the other hand, while using ethanol it generates 176 hp and 221 Nm. The generated power gets transmitted to all the 4 wheels of the baby SUV through a 6 speed torque converter automatic transmission, while paddle shifters are also offered as standard. The AWD addition has increased the SUV’s weight by a hefty 110kg than the regular Indian EcoSport version, and makes it weigh 1469kg. The suspension set-up has been revamped considerably as well to add to the off-roading capabilities. As per Ford, there is an improvement of 15 percent in shock absorption and 40 percent reduction in steering wheel vibration.
In terms of looks, the cosmetic changes in the EcoSport Storm include a new front grille with Storm logo in the Ford Raptor style, Storm badge and decals, black body cladding, decorations and and strips all over, black roof rails and a panoramic sunroof. It also gets a new brown body color in which the vehicle was showcased. It also gets new 17 inch alloy wheels.
On the inside, the Ford EcoSport Storm’s central console is done in a cool dual-tone of orange and grey theme, there is leather seat upholstery, leather wrapped steering wheel, Storm logo embossed front seats backs and more. The equipment list is same as that of the range topping EcoSport Titanium variant and includes features like automatic headlights, height adjustable driver's seat, multifunction steering wheel and an 8.0 inch Sync3 touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support and navigation.
Safety features include 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, hill-assist, an anti-rollover, traction control, stability control system, parking assist with reverse camera and more.
The new Ford EcoSport Storm is based on the new updated model of the subcompact SUV which was recently introduced in India. There are yet no words regarding the launch of the new EcoSport Storm version in India, but it would be a great option to make most of the highly popular compact SUV market of India.
