New-gen Volkswagen Touareg Made Global Debut As A New Flagship
The new-generation Volkswagen Touareg has been unveiled globally at a special event in China, commemorating the 30 years of completion of the brand in the Chinese market. The Touareg is now more upgraded than before and has become the company's new flagship model in Europe and Asia, incorporating everything that the German carmaker is known for. It is one of the most technologically advanced SUV from the German carmaker.
The German automaker, Volkswagen, has named the new-gen Touareg a 'Smart SUV' and it is going to be based on the company's MLB Evo platform, on which its siblings like the Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne, and the Lamborghini Urus has been underpinned.
The new-gen SUV, Touareg comes with a completely new design language for Volkswagen’s SUVs complemented by Arteon-like and wears a new face with a large chrome-slat grille flanked by a pair of bold headlights with LED daytime running lamps integrating into the horizontally louvered grille. The full-LED headlights are the highly advanced in its class and have no less than 128 LEDs per unit. Volkswagen is claiming that the new unit of headlights is enough “to make night-time as bright as day”.
The bonnet and the front bumper on the SUV add muscle to the body with its bold lines and the large black accented air intakes respectively. The new-gen SUV runs on a set of new alloy wheels and the German automotive manufacturer also offers different size options, ranging from 18-inch to the massive 21-inch depending on the variant. There are flared wheel arches and subtle roof-rails. The rear is similar to the already existing model but gets a sleek wrap-around tail light with a redesigned tailgate.
The new Touareg has a larger footprint than the present one with a total length of 4,878 mm and a width of 1,984 mm, though the height has been reduced to 1,702 mm. The SUV sits lower but the boot is a slightly more spacious increasing to a whopping 810 litres with the rear seats in upright position.
The cabin has been refurbished majorly and looks a lot more premium and inviting than the existing one. The new Touareg gets new high-quality interiors along with nice dual tone upholstery. There is seating space for five adults with ventilated front seats and massaging function. The biggest update has been done on the gizmo front and the massive 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system has been introduced which is the biggest in a Volkswagen yet, mated with a fully-digital 12-inch instrument cluster. The infotainment system comes up with a bunch of features including navigation, display smartphone integration along with in-car entertainment and a lot more.;
The new-gen Touareg by VW also features a smart technological package which includes a four-zone air conditioning, a 730-watt, 14-speaker Dynaudio sound system, a night vision system for animal detection along with all-wheel steering, four-corner air suspension with electronic damping control, and the biggest in size panoramic sliding roof featured in a Volkswagen yet.
Under the hood, the powertrain options for the new 2019 Volkswagen Touareg are a range of V6 engines that includes a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine with 230bhp and 340bhp power output for the European markets. For the Chinese market, the German giant has also introduced a plug-in hybrid powertrain that churns out a combined power output of 362 bhp and a range of 50 km in pure-electric mode. VW will be offering the plug-in hybrid Touareg in the European market as well, but later on and the date has not been disclosed. Volkswagen will also be introducing a V6 gasoline motor that produces 340bhp and a top-spec unit powered by a 4.0-liter V8 turbo-diesel that produces 416 bhp later.
The VW Touareg has been a triumphant in Volkswagen’s global line-up since its introduction in 2002 and the new one will up the game further. The SUV will be built in the Bratislava facility in Slovakia where its siblings like the Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne are already under production. The sales for this flagship will commence somewhere around the second half of the year in the international markets across China and Europe. Touareg can make its way to India as Volkswagen might plan to bring it to our shores sometime next year as a CBU flagship.;
