The 2017 Ford EcoSport has been a highly awaited car launch in India ever since it was showcased at the LA Auto Show. The Indian version of the updated subcompact SUV will be a bit different from the global version, but will be essentially the same. The global EcoSport will be manufactured and exported from India. The new updated 2017 Ford EcoSport will be a comprehensive update with good amount of exterior and interior updates and a new Dragon petrol engine option under its hood. While the refreshed EcoSport was expected to launch sometime around Diwali this year, now as per the reports, the model will launch on 9th of November, 2017.

The new updated EcoSport will get many cosmetic changes, most of which are concentrated on its front face. It will flaunt a new hexagonal grille and bolder angular headlights that are similar to the ones seen on Ford’s new models. There will also be new bumper and fog lights. The side profile will be retained, excepting the alloy wheels which are newly designed. The rear design will also be mostly unchanged, but will get slightly refreshed tail lights. The Indian model will retain the tailgate mounted spare wheel, which is dropped in the international model. The spare wheel will come with a new cover.

There are good changes and updates on the inside as well. The new EcoSport will retain the basic cabin layout and dashboard design. However, the vehicle gets a new layout for the centre console, which is dominated by a large touchscreen integrated infotainment system. The subcompact SUV also gets new instrument cluster as well as a new steering wheel. Moreover, the cabin gets a more up-class appeal and comes with trendy body coloured inserts all over replacing the silver accents of the ongoing model.

Confirming all the speculations, Ford recently unveiled a newly developed 1.5 litre petrol engine from its Dragon series in India. This new petrol engine will first make its debut in the Indian market under the hood of the updated EcoSport. The 1.5L 3-cylinder Dragon petrol mill will offer 120 hp of max power. The other engine options of the SUV will the existing 100 hp 1.5L diesel motor, while the acclaimed 1.0L Ecoboost petrol mill is also likely to be retained.

Being a comprehensive facelift, the 2017 Ford EcoSport will not only receive cosmetic and engine lineup updates, but also feature and tech updates. Its new touchscreen infotainment system will come with Ford’s latest SYNC 3 interface along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Other expected added equipments include automatic climate control, cruise control, a rear-view camera and a speed limiter function.

The Ford EcoSport was a pioneering model of the true sub-4 meter compact SUV segment, when it first launched in India in 2012. However, in the current market it faces tough competition of newer models such as the Mahindra TUV300, the newly launched Tata Nexon and the segment leader Maruti Suzuki Brezza. The new updated model should brace the EcoSport with enough ammunition to fight better.
