It has been already reported that French automaker Renault is bracing up to launch a slew of new car models in India in the near future. Renault is expected to launch several new car models based on its flexible Kwid platform, which include the Kwid’s electric version and the Kwid-based MPV model. Now, the first spy pictures of the new upcoming compact Renault MPV have been splashed on the web world. The new Renault Kwid based mini MPV model’s test prototype was caught by the spy shutterbugs in Tamil Nadu. The French carmaker is likely to launch the new sub-4 metre MPV in India sometime next year.
The new upcoming Renault subcompact MPV model will be placed under the existing Lodgy MPV in the company’s Indian product lineup. It is also speculated that Renault will price this new MPV very aggressively to ensure its market success in India.
The new spied Renault subcompact MPV will be based on the CMF-A+ platform, on which the current Renault Kwid entry-level hatchback is based. The Kwid’s platform has been extended for the new upcoming MPV, as it will be longer and probably wider than the Kwid, along with a longer wheelbase. However, it will be under 4-metre in length to avail the small car tax benefits in order to come with an attractive price tag. Nevertheless, it is being said that the upcoming Renault MPV will be very spacious and would be able to accommodate even seven occupants, although nothing is confirmed yet. We think, a 7-seater subcompact MPV would be very cramped up and a 5-seater configuration will be comfortable.
The new MPV model from the house of Renault has been spied covered with heavy camouflages. Renault has revealed that although based on the Kwid, the new MPV model will boast of a completely different design language. The upcoming subcompact MPV will be getting endowed with large wheel rims and chunkier tyres that will mark it apart from its hatchback sibling. The spy shots have also managed to catch other exterior details such as the vehicle’s rear wipers and LED DRLs.
On the inside, the new Kwid-based MPV will be getting a newly designed dashboard, although it will be sharing many other parts and equipments with the Kwid, which will include AC Vents and the infotainment system. The new MPV is likely to be pretty feature rich and come with features such as ABS, dual airbags and rear parking sensors among many others.
The new upcoming Renault MPV is said to be getting equipped by the same 1.0 litre petrol mill that does the duty under the Kwid’s. This engine is expected to get a power boost for the MPV, and so is likely to get empowered by a turbocharger. There are no words as yet about a diesel engine option on this MPV.
The new upcoming subcompact Renault MPV is thought to be priced highly competitively. The stylish and bigger Lodgy MPV has not been able to make a mark on the Indian market, but the new subcompact MPV is hoped to be a volume drawer for the company.
