Czech carmaker has officially unveiled the new Kamiq SUV at the ongoing Beijing Auto Show 2018. The new Skoda Kamiq is a small SUV, which was earlier known as the upcoming new crossover model, and is the latest member of the growing Skoda SUV family.
The Kamiq is an important product for Skoda, as the demands for the SUVs are constantly increasing in the global auto market, and small SUVs and crossover models’ demands are also on the rise. Being a part of Skoda’s new SUV family, the Kamiq comes flaunting a design language that in line with its bigger siblings, namely the Kodiaq and the Koraq. As the Kodiaq is the full-sized SUV and the Karoq is a compact one, the Kamiq small SUV completes the SUV lineup hierarchy in the Czech automaker’s product portfolio.
The Kamiq is a rugged and good looking contemporary small SUV model that is set to impress the urban SUV buyers. The Kamiq also adheres to the Skoda SUV family naming tradition, that is name starting with ‘K’ and ending with ‘Q’. Although the brand new Skoda Kamiq has debuted in the Chinese car market, the new SUV is a global model and will soon debut in other car markets of the world.
The brand new Skoda Kamiq small SUV is based on the PQ platform that is localized in China, which also underpins the China-spec Rapid. Under the hood, the new Skoda Kamiq has been equipped with a 1.5 litre petrol mill that is capable of generating a maximum power output of 108 HP. The petrol engine will be getting paired with a a refined automatic transmission gearbox to offer a smooth and powerful performance.
China, which is the world’s largest car market, is a crucial market for Skoda, as China accounts for about 25 percent of the company’s total global sales. Skoda’s sales in China continued to grow last year and recorded a good 2.5 percent sales rate increase that ensured Skoda reached a total sales of 3,25,000 cars in 2017.
Skoda has set itself a huge sales goal of 6,00,000 vehicles in China by the year 2020, and the company thinks that the new Kamiq will be playing a very important role in doubling Skoda’s total sales in the Chinese market. The Skoda Kamiq small SUV is likely to hit the car market of China this summer with an expected price range of around 90,000 – 1,00,000 yuan (approximately Indian Rs. 9.5 lakhs – Rs. 11 lakhs).
Post its market launch in China, the Skoda Kamiq small SUV will be rivaling against many other similar SUV models such as Citroen C3-XR, Hyundai ix25 and Nissan Kicks.
