After building up a lot of buzz around the Vision X based all-new SUV and finally revealing its official name, Skoda is now bracing up to make the world premiere of the Kamiq. The all-new Skoda Kamiq compact SUV is being readied up to break its cover at the upcoming 2019 Geneva Motor Show that is going to be held in March. The Czech car maker has meanwhile, also teased the new SUV by posting two officialdesign sketches to further build up the buzz around its latest family member. Prior to its official introduction in Geneva, the upcoming new Skoda Kamiq has been recently spied.
It is already known that the brand new Skoda Kamiq is a compact SUV model that will be the smallest member of Skoda’s new family of SUV models. The Kamiq will be placed beneath theKaroq. The Kamiq will be first launched in the car markets of Europe and then in the other global. It is highly anticipated in the Indian car market as well. As and when the SkodaKamiq hits the car market of India, it will be locking its horns with the likes of the compact SUV segment ruling Hyundai Creta and the likes.
It is good to mention at this point of time that Skoda already has an SUV model called the Kamiq, which was unveiled last year. However, that Kamiq is exclusively meant for the car market of China and is not expected to be a global model. On the other hand, the newly teased and yet to be unveiled Kamiq is going to be a global model and is based on a different platform and design language, and thus, is a completely different product with the same name.
As already mentioned, the new SkodaKamiq is based on the Skoda Vision X concept, which was showcased at last year’s Geneva Motor Show. It is likely to keep close to the concept model and have a highly contemporary and eye-catching styling. The new Czech compact SUV has been caught by the spying cameras on the roads of South Africa, while the test prototype was busy during its road test schedule. The recently released spy video, shows that the new Kamiq follows in line with the Kodiaq flagship SUV and the Karoq SUV, when design language is concerned. The Kamiq has been endowed with split headlight styling which is similar to what can be found on the Hyundai Kona.
Thenew Kamiq is based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB AO platform that also forms the base of the VW T-Cross and the Seat Arona. The European-spec Kamiq SUV will be also sharing its powertrains with its other SUV cousins from the VW Group. This will include a 1.0 litre TSI petrol mill, a 1.5 litre TSI petrol unit and a 1.6 litre TDI diesel motor.
The all-new Skoda Kamiq is likely to be introduced in India at the 2020 Auto Expo, and launch in the country soon after. The India-spec Kamiq will be sharing the highly localized MQB AO IN platform with the India-spec T-Cross.
