The world acclaimed Toyota Prius is already charming the rest of the world lately in its latest avatar. However, it is yet to arrive in this country. But the Indian environment-friendly populace (although few) won’t have to wait any longer to taste the new Prius, as it is arriving very soon in India. As per the reports, the new generation Toyota Prius Hybrid is all braced up to launch in India in the second week of January 2017, and the news is confirmed.

Japanese auto major, Toyota Motor which is the top selling car maker in the world, is known for its eco-friendly technological prowess and green car models. The Toyota Prius is the pioneering hybrid model which never lost its phenomenal popularity even in the face of tough competition. The Prius hybrid saloon has been one of the crucial pillars of global success for Toyota Motor, although in India the car never received even an iota of the popularity it enjoys globally. Despite knowing that India is not a friendly ground for green cars, Toyota Kirloskar Motor India did not hesitate bringing in its Prius in India and hasn’t been affected by the very low sales of the ongoing Prius in this country. Prius is Toyota’s pride and the company’s representative as a green crusader and also a showcase of Toyota’s prowess in advanced automobile technology. And thus, the Prius continues in India and is now ready to come in its new avatar.

The Toyota Prius was first introduced to India back in 2010 at the Auto Expo. Indian car buyers’ lack of interest in green cars and steep pricing made sure that the highly established Prius finds very few takers in India. However, Toyota seems to hardly care about it and this fact was established after the Japanese auto giant launched the locally assemble Camry Hybrid model. The Camry Hybrid changed it all for the company and went ahead to become extremely popular, especially during the interim diesel car ban and car usage restrictions in Delhi NCR. Nevertheless, the Prius continues to be a low seller, but this Japanese pride and joy is anyway ready to start afresh in India.

Even with the launch of the new Prius, Toyota does not expect high sales figures, and thus it will remain to be a fully imported model ensuring a luxury tag. The sedan comes packed with a more efficient hybrid powertrain comprising of a 1.8L petrol mill paired with an electric motor to offer a combined power figure of 121 PS. The new generation model should be offering fuel efficiency of around 25 kmpl.

As mentioned above, the new-gen Toyota Prius will continue to be arriving in India through CBU route and thus, its price is likely to be around Rs. 30 lakhs, thanks to the exorbitant import taxes.

The best ever Toyota Prius Hybrid will go up against the Honda Accord Hybrid and its own cousin Camry Hybrid in India.
