New Volvo S60 India Launch In March 2021
Volvo has showcased the third-gen S60 sedan in India. It comes almost two years after its global debut back in 2018. The new S60 was scheduled to launch in India in 2019, but the spread of COVID-19 delayed its launch. Now, the third-gen S60 is slated to go on sale in India by March 2021.
Apart from the SPA platform, the new S60 also shares design cues with its elder sibling -- S90. In fact, the third-gen S60 looks like a miniature version of the S90 sedan. Upfront, the S60 gets a wide grille with chequered detailing. It is flanked by a set of sleek headlamps with Thor's hammer LED DRLs. The bumper looks sporty with a wide central air dam flanked by the fog lamp housing which is connected by a piano black trim element.
The side profile looks clean with minimal character lines. Coming to the rear, like the S90, the new S60 also gets C-shaped tail lamps flanking the number plate housing, Volvo lettering in the centre and a muscular rear bumper.
The new S60 replicates other modern Volvo cars on the inside as well. It gets a minimalist cabin layout with a large 9-inch portrait-oriented screen taking the centre stage. It supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features on offer include 4-zone climate control (first-in-segment), Bowers and Wilkins sound system, digital instrument cluster, auto LED headlamps and a panoramic sunroof.
For safety, along with features like up to 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, traction control and electronic stability program, the S60 also gets XC40-like active safety tech like pilot assist, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping aid, city safety with steering support, cross-traffic alert with brake support and rear collision warning system.
Under the hood, the S60 will be offered with a petrol engine only. To be offered only in the T4 trim, it will be powered by XC40’s 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine making 190PS and 400Nm, mated to an 8-speed torque converter automatic.
Bookings for the third-gen S60 are slated to begin from January 2021. Prices are likely to start from Rs 45 lakh (ex-showroom). The S60 will take on likes of the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Jaguar XE and the upcoming Audi A4.
