German luxury automaker Audi is preparing to bring the next gen Q5 in India soon. According to the reports, the SUV is scheduled to be launched in the country in the first half of 2018 most probably in January by the automaker. Audi has already started testing the upcoming Q5 in India and the SUV was spotted all set for the launch here. Audi first unveiled the new generation of the Q5 at the 2016 Paris Motor Show and since then, it was speculated to come to the Indian market.
Mechanically, the 2018 Audi Q5 gets the same 2.0 litre TDI diesel engine that empowers the existing model mated to the 7-speed S-Tronic automatic transmission and Quattro AWD. However, we can also expect the new 2-litre TFSI petrol motor to make it to India. This is due to the growing demand for petrol vehicles in the country and Audi is pushing towards introducing all its best sellers with a petrol mill in the country as well.
Based on the Volkswagen Group’s MLB Evo platform, at the exterior, the next gen Audi Q5 gets a large single frame chrome grille, flanked by the carmaker's signature Matrix LED headlamps with dynamic turn indicators along with a big front bumper with large air intakes for increased airflow. The same platform underpins the new Audi A4 and Q7 as well. One interesting thing about this upcoming SUV is that there are no fog lamps that are visible and making it looks like a clean and decent design. From the front, the new Audi Q5 looks similar to its larger sibling the Q7. The line on the Q5 is now more angular and is also 90kgs lighter than its previous generation.
The interior comes loaded with a number of modern and advanced features such as Audi's virtual cockpit, ambient lighting, head-up display (HUD) unit as well as the Audi MMI infotainment system. The Virtual Cockpit now gets a 12.3-inch display unit replacing the conventional instrument cluster and a larger 8.3-inch infotainment display unit along with MMI Touch. Other highlights include wireless charging and three-zone climate control as well as Predictive Efficiency Assist that can tie into navigation and speed adaptation in line with traffic data.
According to a statement on Audi’s official website, “Appointed with rich infotainment systems, the Audi Q5 lets you live the good life. The available Audi virtual cockpit is a fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster that allows the driver to customize information such as navigation and audio, offering classic and infotainment modes as well as Google Earth or Google Street View screen options."
At present, in international market Audi Q5 boasts of three features namely premium starting at $41,500, premium plus at $45,500 and prestige at $50,800. However, the pricing and official launch details of the 2018 Audi Q5 are yet to be announced but we can expect it to be priced somewhere around Rs 54 Lakh- Rs 55 Lakh and when launched, the car will compete with the likes of BMW X3, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Mercedes-Benz GLC and newly-launched Volvo XC60.
