German luxury automaker Audi is all set to launch the much anticipated next-gen Audi Q5 in the Indian market. Starting the New Year with a bang, the automaker has announced the official launch date of January 18th, 2018 for the second gen Audi Q5. First showcased at the 2017 Paris Motor Show, the car will be replacing the ageing first-gen model which was launched in 2013. The crossover SUV will be the first launch if 2018 by the German automaker.

Based on the same MLB Evo platform by VW, the new Audi Q5 shares its platform with other Audi cars such as the A4, A6, A7, A8 and the Q7. Audi’s signature hexagonal grill flanked by sleek LED headlamps, redesigned bumper with large fog lamp housings with horizontal chrome inserts, sharp smooth shoulder line running across the side profile and the large tailgate housing the LED tail lamps at the rear completes the look of the upcoming Audi Q5. The new SUV is also lighter by a good 100 kg over the predecessor and has also grown in dimensions sporting a longer wheelbase and height.

Coming to the interior, the compact crossover SUV looks quite similar to its elder sibling Q7. The second generation Audi Q5 gets a completely digital 12.3-inch instrument console, touchscreen infotainment system on the centre console, a Heads-up Display (HUD) system, updated Audi MMI system, navigation with incorporated Google Earth and the Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system are the highlights at the inside of the SUV. Apart from these, the SUV will also come equipped with a number of electronic aids including adaptive cruise control, active lane assist, collision avoidance assist, pre-sense front and rear, park assist, blind spot warning and many more.

Mechanically, the automaker has not confirmed anything regarding the powertrain of the 2018 Audi Q5 but we can expect it to offer a 2.0-litre Quattro Ultra TDI diesel engine tuned to produce 190 bhp and 400 Nm of peak torque as well as in a more efficient 163 bhp derivative for Indian market. In terms of petrol engine, Audi is likely to introduce the 2.0-litre TFSI petrol motor with about 252 bhp of power. Both the engines will be mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission, which will send power to all four wheels.

Audi will bring the all-new Q5 to India in CKD form from its San Jose Chiapa plant in Mexico. Assembled at the VW plant in Aurangabad, the second generation Audi Q5 has been spotted testing on the country several times, expected to be priced somewhere around Rs 50 lakh- Rs 55 lakh ex-showroom, the 2018 Audi Q5 will take against the likes of Mercedes-Benz GLC, Land Rover Discovery Sport, BMW X3 as well as the newly launched Volvo XC60. Also, the automaker has already listed the vehicle on its Indian website, so, we can expect the advance bookings to start soon. Stay tuned to for further updates on the upcoming second generation Audi Q5.
