Maruti Suzuki has launched the facelifted version of their Celerio hatchback at Rs 4.15 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Maruti Suzuki Celerio was also first car in company’s portfolio to get the auto-gear shift (AGS) technology back in 2014. The updated Celerio is available in 12 variants including two CNG variants.

Speaking at the launch, R S Kalsi, Senior Executive Director (Marketing and Sales) said, “Brand CELERIO has clocked sales of over 300,000 units. We thank customers for their support. To mark this occasion, we have launched a new CELERIO, which will delight the customers with its modern looks. The new CELERIO is also loaded with advanced safety features and meets pedestrian, offset and side impact regulation norms. CELERIO has retained a healthy growth rate of over 19% since launch. Based on customer feedback, we have continuously provided new features to CELERIO to delight them. We are confident that new CELERIO will continue to meet the aspirations of the customers.”

The 2017 Maruti Suzuki Celerio looks like a mixture of modern and contemporary design with a redesigned front bumper and a sporty chrome finished grille. Apart from this, the hatchback gets an all-black rear bumper and fog lamps adding to the overall aggressive look with modified lines across the bonnet of the car. Not only the exterior but the interior of the hatch also offers changes including cabin finished in black-beige color, greige seat trims with a new abstract pattern. Silver accents, new seats and fabric design on the door panel are the other highlights at the interior.

Power to the hatchback comes from the same 1.0L petrol three-cylinder petrol engine that develops 68hp and 90Nm of peak torque. While all variants get a five-speed manual as standard, the higher-spec VXi and ZXi trims also offer the choice of a five-speed AMT gearbox apart from the manual one. According to the company, Celerio is the seventh model in its line-up to meet pedestrian, offset and side impact regulations. Also, the automaker has committed to meet the new safety norms ahead of its timelines and Celerio is the latest to join after S-Cross, Baleno, Ciaz, Ertiga, IGNIS and Dzire and comes with driver-side air-bag as a standard safety feature across all variants.

The Celerio hatchback has not only been responsible for starting the 'automatic revolution' in India but also deserves applaud for making the revolution successful in the market. According to the reports, more than 36% of Celerio buyers have preferred the AMT version of the Celerio top-end Z variant contributing to about 48% of total Maruti Suzuki Celerio sales in the first half of 2017-18.The Celerio hatchback rivals the likes of the Renault Kwid, Hyundai Eon and the Datsun Redi-Go.
