German luxury auto major Mercedes-Benz is known to be working on several upcoming launches, many of which are new generation models of the company’s existing cars. One such upcoming new-gen model is the Mercedes GLS-Class. The next-gen GLS-Class’ test prototype model continues with test schedule like many of its siblings donning heavy camouflage. The next generation GLS-Class’ test model has been covered with multiple layers of camouflage by the company to keep all the design changes a secret and safe from the spying shutterbugs. However, while the exterior changes still remain a matter of speculation, the vehicle’s interior has been partly spied recently.
The upcoming second generation Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class SUV’s dashboard has been revealed by a set of spy pictures that have been splashed on the internet. Thus, the spy images offer the first sneak-peek at the next-gen GLS-Class’ interior.
Going by the pictures, the next-gen GLS-Class SUV has been endowed with a huge digital screen which occupies around half the length of the vehicle’s dashboard. However, the images were clicked when the entire screen was in active state. The part of the screen that is in the front of the driver’s side shows the traditional instrument layout that comes complete with dials for the speedometer, the tachometer and also offers other important information. The central part of the digital display offers an overhead view of the entire vehicle as well as all the indications of where the sensors of the vehicle are detecting any possible hazard. In the spy images, nothing more is visible as the rest of the display is inactive. However, it is not hard to guess that the remaining inactive part of the display screen will obviously be devoted to do the duty for the infotainment system. The pictures also show that just beneath the massive screen, the four HVAC vents have been placed. The spy camera could not detect any more of the new GLS-Class’ interior, as the rest of the cabin has been well hidden by veils. Nevertheless, the three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel could be seen as well.
As already mentioned above, the exterior design of the next generation Mercedes-Benz has been fully hidden with thick veils. However, the silhouette of the SUV gives away the fact that continues to remain a large SUV with conventional boxy design language to offer the tough luxury SUV stance. The new-gen GLS-Class SUV will be locking its horns with the likes of the upcoming BMW X7 and Land Rover Range Rover.
The next-gen Mercedes GLS-Class will be sharing its powertrain with the S-Class flagship saloon. The SUV is based on a new platform which enabled it to slash down weight as compared against its predecessor. The GLS-Class’ sporty AMG variants will be getting powered by the performance wing’s acclaimed 4.0 liter twin turbocharged V8 motor. Apart from the performance-centric AMG models, the GLS will be also be offered in the magnificent and lavish Maybach variant with a superb cabin.
The next-gen GLS-Class SUV’s standard lineup will be launched next year and is likely to have its world premiere within this year, while its AMG and Maybach versions will be introduced at a later date.
