Next-Gen Toyota Corolla Sedan To Be Unveiled In November
Scheduled to be unveiled at the 2018 Guangzhou Auto Show scheduled to start from November 16, the next- generation Toyota Corolla sedan will debut in November 2018. Though, not confirmed by the manufacturer yet but according to the source, the company will showcase both the standard version of the new Toyota Corolla sedan and also the PHEV plug-in hybrid version at the upcoming event. Recently, Toyota showcased the hatch version of Corolla at the 2018 Paris Motor Show.
In terms of updates, the upcoming Toyota Corolla sedan will offer more space and new technology. The car has been spotted testing a number of times in India and according to the spied images, the sedan will offer larger grille at the front while the rear of the car is sharper and more angular than the current model with new LED taillights and rear bumpers that come with body colored sensors. Also, the new Corolla is expected to be a bit longer and wider and have a larger wheelbase of about 2,700 mm. apart from these, the plug- in hybrid version of the Corolla will also get a blue logo for the differentiator.
Other than these, the interior of the sedan gets a complete upgrade and is likely to carry forward the design cues from the Corolla hatchback. We can expect the interior to offer a three- spoke steering wheel with a modern digital display, a larger infotainment system at the dashboard and for the first time is likely to support various phone connectivity options like Android Auto as well as an in- built navigation system as the highlights.
Mechanically, the next- gen Toyota Corolla is likely to get a 1.8 L and 2.0 L petrol hybrid system with manual and CVT gearboxes. It is expected to boast an all- electric range of 50 km, which is more than the Prius Prime’s 40 km range.
The all- new Corolla sedan will be based on the company's latest TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform, which is touted to be more rigid and have a lower centre of gravity than its predecessor. The same platform underpins other Toyota cars such as the Prius and the Camry. The updated sedan will also come with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, a suite of features that includes autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, intelligent cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist and even auto high beams as well as Toyota’s data communication module that offers 24x7 connectivity services focused on safety, security, comfort and convenience based on real-time driving data. However, these details are yet to be confirmed by the Japanese automaker for the India- spec model.
Also, according to the recent partnership between Toyota and Maruti, the new Corolla sedan will also be built in India for Maruti as well. Maruti will be looking forward to expand its line- up with the Toyota Corolla based premium offering that could be retailed via the Nexa sales network.
