Japanese auto major Nissan has introduced a new base variant -- XE -- of the Kicks compact SUV. The Kicks XE is priced at Rs. 9.89 lakhs (ex-showroom, pan India).
The new entry level variant of the Kicks is available with the diesel engine only. It is around Rs 1.2 lakh more affordable than the previous base XL variant. While the new Nissan XE base variant offers more affordability, the rest of the variants in the Kicks lineup - XL, XV and the new XV Pre have also got updated with new additional features along with a price hike.
The price hike of the other variants of the Kicks ranges between Rs 2000 and Rs 24,000, depending on the variant. The Japanese auto major has also realigned the lineup of the car, as instead of the range topping XV Pre and XV Pre Option variants, only one top-end variant -- XV Premium -- will now be available in the market. The new XV Premium variant combines features of the previous XV Pre and Pre-Option variants.
Some of the noteworthy features of the Kicks XE include automatic climate control along with rear AC vents, 2DIN music system with Bluetooth and USB connectivity, cooled glovebox, rear parking sensors, central locking system, impact sensing automatic door locks and shark fin antenna.
Features like ABS with EBD, dual airbags and Brake Assist are standard. Nissan also offers Nissan Connect tech that includes features such as speed alert, geo-fencing, locate my car and share my car location and curfew alert. There is also Intelligent Key that offers functions like keyless entry and push button start/stop and 'Lead Me to Car'.
As compared against the new base Nissan Kicks XE trim, the higher models offer more premium features including an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, voice recognition, Vehicle Dynamic Control, 360-degree camera, side airbags, leather seat upholstery, LED projector headlamps and dual-tone paint scheme.
The diesel engine of the Nissan Kicks is a 1.5-litre unit that develops 108PS of maximum power and 240Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.
The Kicks rivals the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster. Kia is set to launch its compact SUV Seltos in India in August, which will compete against the Kicks and its rivals.
