Production-Spec Tata Gravitas To Be Unveiled On January 26
Tata Motors showcased the near-production Gravitas in February 2020 at the 2020 Auto Expo. The carmaker is now all set to showcase the production-spec SUV and the unveiling has been scheduled for 26 January 2021.
If you have been following the Gravitas launch for a while now, you must know it is essentially a 7-seater version of the Harrier SUV. So, it looks identical to the Harrier at least till the C-pillar. Post that, it features a redone rear end.
Recently, a leaked image gave us a glimpse of the Gravitas’ rear profile and it looks identical to what we saw at the Auto Expo 2020. Compared to the Harrier, it gets chunkier tail lamps connected by a chrome strip. It also features a retouched rear bumper and the overall rear profile is also more upright. In order to accommodate the extra row of seating, the Gravitas also gets a flatter roof. The Gravitas is expected to be a little longer and taller than the Harrier while the width and wheelbase are likely to remain unchanged. Compared to the Harrier, the Gravitas will get new alloys and Tata might also introduce some minor updates at the front to set it apart from the Harrier.
On the inside, while the layout remains unchanged, it is expected to get a dual-tone black-beige finish instead of the black-brown combination seen on the Harrier. The features are expected to remain unchanged. Like the Harrier, expect it to get features like up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, hill hold control, electronic stability control, hill descent control, 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, JBL sound system, powered driver’s seat, 7-inch driver’s display, auto AC and a panoramic sunroof. Tata might also offer some additional features on the Gravitas in the form of the electronic parking brake, front parking sensors and connected car tech.
Under the hood, the Gravitas will replicate the Harrier. It will be powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine making 170PS and 350Nm mated to either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AT. Tata might also launch a turbocharged petrol engine with the Gravitas.
Tata is expected to launch the Gravitas by March 2021. It is expected to be priced at a slight premium over the Harrier that retails from Rs 13.84 lakh to Rs 20.30 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It will rival likes of the MG Hector Plus and the upcoming second-gen Mahindra XUV500.
