Lexus, the luxury brand by Toyota has released a new teaser for the 2019 ES sedan revealing practically revealed the car ahead of its official unveiling at 2018 Beijing Motor Show. The new Lexus ES takes its inspiration for its older and more luxurious sibling the Lexus LS which means that the car is now sharper, more stylish and a lot more premium compared to the previous model. The automaker had revealed the grille of the 2019 Lexus ES last week. The revealed image is accompanied by two sentences, "The all-new ES springs from a reimagined luxury equation. Engaging design, athletic performance, and renowned refinement transform Lexus's most popular sedan."
Based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, the new Lexus ES will get the same 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor. The engine is tuned to produce a maximum power of 202 bhp and 213 Nm of peak torque. The transmission duty will be carried out by an E-CVT unit. However, in the international market the Lexus ES is offered with a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine that churns out 264 bhp.
In terms of looks and design, the upcoming Lexus ES gets company's signature massive spindle grille that is flanked by a new set of LED headlamps that come with new LED daytime running lights, stylish metallic styling element on the grille borders and boomerang-shaped chrome accents along the air intake on the bumper, new blackened ORVMs and the new multi-spoke alloy wheels, the rear gets new LED taillamps with a restyled cluster design, larger boot-lid-mounted spoiler and a redesigned rear bumper. Looking at the details, it is quite clear that the profile of the new Lexus ES sedan is very much similar to the outgoing model except for few things.
Underpinned by the new TNGA platform, the seventh generation Lexus ES is expected to be lighter than the predecessor as well as well-equipped in terms of features. We can expect the interior of the upcoming premium sedan to offer new upholstery, a revised infotainment system and new and updated materials. The latest technological gizmos, additional safety features including pre-collision warning and steer assist among others are also expected to be on offer.
In the European market, the next-gen premium sedan will be launched for the first time where it will replace the GS sedan. However, as the rear-wheel-drive sports sedan couldn't compete in the European markets, hence perhaps the front-wheel-drive family sedan will do better by not making a frontal assault on the segment leaders. However, Lexus has also promised "the unexpected" with the new ES and the reports suggest AWD have accompanied the news of "a range of advanced gasoline and hybrid powertrains." Currently, the existing ES offers two powertrains, one gas and one hybrid. The outgoing Lexus ES, which is priced from $63,750 internationally, is positioned between the mid-size Lexus IS sedan (currently priced from $59,340) and large GS sedan (from $75,931).
However, there is no confirmation regarding the sedan making its way to the Indian market. Internationally, the 2019 Lexus ES is expected to go on sale by early 2019. Stay tuned to V3cars.com for further updates on the 2019 Lexus ES.
