The current year of 2017 is drawing close to its end, and as the New Year is approaching it is time again for the auto makers in India to announce yearly price hikes. Every year, auto makers in India increase the prices of their offerings for the new model year, while also offering discounts for the current year models during the month of December to clear old inventory. Following the usual procedure, Czech car maker Skoda has announced price hike for its models in India.
Skoda Auto India has increased the prices of its products across its entire line-up, which will come into effect from 1st January, 2018. The price hike across the Skoda product portfolio will make the cars turn become expensive by 2-3 percent in India. The Czech auto manufacturing company is a part of the German auto giant Volkswagen Group. Skoda Auto India currently offers only four models for sale in the car market of India, which includes the premium sedan models - Skoda Rapid, Skoda Octavia and Skoda Superb, and the recently launched premium SUV model – the Skoda Kodiaq. As the reason behind the price hike, Skoda did not divulge too many details to the media, and simply said that it is required due to the changing market conditions and the several external economic factors.
The exact causes are not actually required, as we all know that it is a common practice among the auto makers to increase prices at the beginning of a new calendar year. However, the Czech car maker is the first company to have made the price hike announcement in India this year, while we are expecting the other major car makers to soon follow suite and make their announcements throughout the month of December.
Skoda India had a good time this year, which was full of new interesting and updated model launches. The two of the most awaited new model launches from Skoda this year were the Octavia RS which launched earlier this year. The Skoda Octavia RS with its attractive price tag is one of the more affordably priced performance sedans in India, and this led 250 units of the model already sold, while more bookings are pouring in making Skoda happy. Another huge and very important launch from Skoda India was the introduction of the new Skoda Kodiaq SUV, which is the brand’s first full-sized 7-seater SUV model. It goes straight against the very established models like the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, while it will also fight against the more luxurious Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW X1 and the likes.
Skoda Auto India’s current product range is priced from Rs. 8.20 lakhs for the base model of Rapid sedan that goes up to Rs. 34.50 lakhs for the top of the range Kodiaq SUV (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi). The Czech car maker’s dealership network comprises of 67 sales and 66 service outlets across India.
