Skoda Karoq, Rapid Turbo, Superb Facelift Launch On 26 May

by V3Cars Team on Thursday, May 21 2020

After a long wait due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, Skoda is finally launching the 3 cars that should’ve been here by now. Skoda is now launching the Rapid with the new 1.0-litre turbo petrol and Superb facelift with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine. However, the most anticipated car coming our way is the Karoq compact SUV, which gets a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine.

The Rapid with its new 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine will compete with the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Toyota Yaris, Volkswagen Vento and Honda City. The full-size sedan Superb competes with the recently-updated Toyota Camry. The Karoq will compete with compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Nissan Kicks. But, being a full import makes it quite expensive. So, expect it to fight it out with mid-size SUVs like the Volkswagen T-Roc, MG Hector, Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and Mahindra XUV500.

Bookings for the three cars had begun sometime back. While the Rapid and Superb are made locally, the Karoq is a full import just like the Volkswagen T-Roc. Both, the Karoq and T-Roc, appear to be stop-gap solutions to the lack of affordable SUVs the VW Group’s India portfolio.
