Czech car maker, Skoda has posted the very first teaser image for the new performance version of its top of the line Kodiaq SUV. At present, the Skoda Kodiaq RS is undergoing tests at the Nurburgring circuit, and this has been confirmed by the company in the teaser image. The new Kodiaq RS is likely to have its world premiere at the 2018 Paris Motor Show in October. Skoda might even choose to reveal the exterior design of the new performance centric model of the Kodiaq prior to its official world debut.
As far as the Indian car market is concerned, the only punchy RS model that the company sells here is the Skoda Octavia RS. Given the flagship model status of the 7-seater Kodiaq premium SUV, Skoda might consider launching the Kodiaq RS version in India at a later stage, if the Czech car maker feels there’s enough demand for it here.
The more powerful new upcoming Skoda Kodiaq RS is likely to get equipped with a 4-cylinder turbocharged, 2.0 litre TDI diesel motor as standard, which would be paired to a DSG transmission unit along with paddle shifters, unlike the RS version of the Octavia which comes along with an optional 6 speed manual transmission as well. The 2 liter turbocharged mill has been borrowed from the Passat BiTDI. This powerful diesel motor is expected to churn out a max power output of 237 bhp at 4000 rpm and more than a hammering 500 Nm of top torque from a range of as low as 1,750 rpm. This performance SUV model will obviously come with an All Wheel Drive (AWD) as part of its standard package. The other important details on the Skoda Kodiaq RS’ mechanical specifications and other technical updates should get slowly revealed as the model approaches close to its official unveiling. It is also thought that the Czech car maker would also choose to go for a sportier suspension setup for this hot SUV.
In terms of the exterior styling updates, the Skoda Kodiaq RS will be getting all the usual sporty styling features that the performance versions get. Skoda should be endowing an all-black treatment to the premium SUV, somewhat similar to that of the Kodiaq Sportline variant which was introduced in 2017. Thus, it is likely that The Kodiaq RS will be flaunting a black finished massive grille with the vRS badge along with smoked or dark LED headlights and black painted alloy wheels. Other common visual updates that are expected include a black bumper, black wing mirrors and black roof rails among others to complete the sporty, mean look.
On the inside, the new upcoming Skoda Kodiaq RS is also likely to continue the regal all-black treatment just like the Octavia RS. The black monotone should be broken with contrast stitching on the seat upholstery and highlights, while the vRS logo should be flaunted on the seats, instrument console and scuff plates. Nevertheless, none of these details are confirmed as yet and only based on speculations. For now, we are simply eager to see the real Kodiaq RS when it is officially revealed.
