Skoda is really being aggressive about its new model strategy. The Czech car maker is constantly grabbing headlines for its new upcoming products. One such upcoming model from the stable of Skoda is a new compact SUV that’s based on the Vision X concept. This new Skoda compact SUV model is expected to arrive in India, soon after its global debut. The Skoda Vision X based new SUV is scheduled to have its world premiere at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show in March, but before that Skoda has already started building the buzz around it by teasing the model. Skoda has recently released an official teaser image of the upcoming new SUV offering a glimpse at the SUV’s front fascia and the overall silhouette.
From this official teaser image we can ascertain the silhouette of the upcoming Skoda Vision X based compact SUV, but the teaser also offers a good idea about the front façade of the vehicle. The overall design of the new upcoming SUV is expected to be heavily inspired by the Vision X concept which was showcased at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Based on Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform, it shares the platform with many other vehicles.
The new SUV is expected to be a compact SUV, and set to be one of the smallest SUV models in Skoda’s new SUV lineup. The new model will be placed beneath the Kodiaq and Karoq SUVs. As per some reports, this new India-bound SUV is going to be christened as ‘Kosmiq’, following the new Skoda SUV naming tradition that includes the Kodiaq, Karoq and the china-specific Kamiq.
Although the new Vision X based SUV is expected to share similar design cues with the larger Kodiaq and Karoq, going by the newly teased image, the model seem to get sportily styled LED headlights along with eye-catching Daytime Running Lights which have been styled to look considerably different from its bigger siblings.
The showcased Vision X concept packed in CNG-hybrid system, consisting of a 1.5 litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that is capable of generating up to 131 PS of max power and 250 Nm of top torque. The CNG engine gets paired with two electric motors. One of these is a belt driven starter-generator which is assists in powering the concept SUV’s front wheels. The second electric motor offers 27 PS and 70 Nm of to offer support to the rear wheel.
The Vision X concept was shown as a primarily front-wheel drive model that is also capable of offering on-demand all-wheel drive capabilities with the help of the electric motors. Moreover, apart from CNG, a petrol reserve tank is also there to aid the vehicle start effortlessly in cold weather conditions.
In its India-spec, the upcoming new Vision X based SUV is expected to get equipped with a 1 litre turbocharged petrol mill. Post its India launch, it is expected to lock its horns with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, and the soon to launch SUVs like the Nissan Kicks and the Tata Harrier.
