Skoda is bracing up to introduce quite a few new models in the global market, and one of these is the sporty 'vRS' version of its flagship SUV model – the Kodiaq. The Czech automaker is readying up the Skoda Kodiaq RS for its world premiere at the upcoming 2018 Paris Motor Show which will be held in the month of October, 2018. vRS is essentially the abbreviation of victories and rally sport, and the Kodiaq will be the first SUV from the house of Skoda to be wearing the RS badge. Currently, Skoda is busy building up the buzz around the new performance centric version of the Kodiaq by dropping quite a few teaser images. The Czech automaker has again teased the new upcoming Kodiaq RS in order to keep the limelight on it as its world debut approaches closer.
To make it serve its performance centric purpose better, the Skoda Kodiaq RS version will be getting powered by a new 2.0 litre TDI bi-turbocharged diesel engine that comes as standard. This diesel motor is capable of churning out a max power output of 236 bhp along with a hammering peak torque of 500 Nm. According to Skoda, this is most powerful diesel engine ever in the company's history that stretches over 120 years.
The Skoda Kodiaq RS will also get some sporty cosmetic changes to befit is sporty performance along with some new features. It will certainly flaunt the RS badges all over along with some signature racy red accents that mark all the Skoda RS models. The Kodiaq RS is likely to get a stiffer suspension system to offer enhanced handling and performance. The new Kodiaq RS will also boast of DCC (adaptive dynamic chassis control) that comes with progressive steering and driving modes selection.
The Skoda Kodiaq RS has already created the record of the fastest 7-seater SUV model while testing at Nurburgring with a time of 9 minutes and 29.84 seconds.
The Skoda Kodiaq 7-seater premium SUV model is already available for sale in the Indian car market, powered by a 2.0 litre diesel motor that is good to deliver a max power output of 148 bhp along with a top torque of 340 Nm. The flagship Skoda SUV gets coupled with a 7 speed DSG transmission and is tagged at Rs. 34.84 lakhs in our market. Considering that Skoda is planning to launch a slew of models in India, we can hope to get new Kodiaq RS at a later stage. If and when launched in India, the Skoda Kodiaq RS will be sitting at the top of the carmaker’s lineup as it will definitely be priced dearer than the standard Kodiaq.
While India is a fast maturing auto market and a rapidly growing SUV market, the sporty SUV segment is an uncharted space here. Thus, if Skoda decides to bring in the Kodiaq RS to India, it will be a unique product in its own segment.
