Skoda showcased the Vision IN Concept ahead of the 2020 Auto Expo and confirmed that its production model will go on sale in India in 2021. Now, we have got a more specific timeline for the launch of the Vision IN-based SUV. Zach Hollis, Director, Skoda Auto India, has confirmed that the SUV will go on sale in India in mid-2021. Replying to a tweet, he said, “ We will launch the new mid-sized SUV in the middle of next year.”
The compact SUV has already been spotted testing in India and it looks quite similar to the concept. Upfront, it features Skoda’s signature butterfly grille with a chrome surround flanked by two-part LED headlamps. The bumper is chunky with a large central air dam. Coming to the side, it looks clean with a sharp shoulder line running across the length. The test mule rides on 17-inch wheels while the lower variants are expected to get 16-inch units. Coming to the rear, it gets L-shaped tail lamps flanking the SKODA lettering on the tailgate, similar to what we have seen on the concept and other modern Skoda cars.
On the inside, the compact SUV is expected to replicate its siblings as far as the cabin layout is concerned. So expect it to be loaded on the features front as well, considering the fact that it will compete against the Seltos and Creta, both of which are loaded to the gills when it comes to features.
The Czech SUV is expected to get features like a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, auto LED headlamps, panoramic sunroof, auto AC with rear AC vents and wireless charging. For safety, expect up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat anchors, hill launch assist, electronic stability program, traction control and electronic parking brake.
Under the hood, the Vision IN is expected to get two petrol engine options. The lower variants are expected to come with the 1.0-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine making 110PS and 175Nm mated to 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AT. In the higher variants, Skoda might offer the 1.5-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine making 147PS and 250Nm mated to a 7-speed DSG.
Prices of the Vision IN are expected to range from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 16 lakh. It will take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster and the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun.
