    Spied: 2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R AMT

    2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is all set to be launched on 23rd January this month in the Indian market. The hatchback has already been spotted a number of times testing and the brochure of the car has also been leaked on the internet. Recently, the AMT version of the 2019 Wagon R has been spotted in the latest set of pictures on the internet. The spied images reveal the interior of the upcoming Wagon R.

    From the images, the spotted vehicle is seen parked at a dealership yard. The car shows fog lamps at the front along with chrome garnish at the front grille and with body colored rear view mirrors having integrated turning blinkers. Talking about the spied interior, the 2019 Wagon R AMT will come with dual tone white and black interiors with new and sporty steering wheel. It also gets mounted buttons to enhance the convenience of the driver. The touchscreen infotainment system supporting both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay can also be seen in the spied images.


    Talking about the other details, the leaked brochure of the upcoming Wagon R reveals that the next – gen model is 56 mm longer, 130 mm wider and 25 mm shorter compared to the outgoing version. Not only the dimension but the wheelbase of the hatchback has also been increased by 35 mm, now standing at 2,435 mm. Also, the car will be up to 65 kg lighter weighing around 805 kg for the base model. The brochure also reveals that the the interior of the top- spec variant will get Maruti’s SmartPlay 7.0- inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, while the mid- spec VXi will get a standard 2- DIN audio system with Bluetooth connectivity.

    Maruti Suzuki has also made a number of equipments standard in order to meet the upcoming crash test norms. The features include ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, a seatbelt reminder for the driver and front passenger, driver- side airbag and a speed alert system. However, the passenger side airbag will be an optional extra on the LXi and VXi trims, while the top- spec ZXi will get dual front airbags as standard, along with seatbelt pretensioners and load limiters.


    Mechanically, the next- gen Wagon R gets the same 68 hp, 1.0- litre, three- cylinder engine (K10B) as the existing model, and will also be additionally offered with a new 83 hp, 1.2- litre, four- cylinder engine (K12M) borrowed from Maruti Suzuki’s bigger hatchbacks such as the Swift and Ignis. Both engines get 5- speed manual and automated manual transmission options, while a CNG option will also be on offer only on the K10B motor. The brochure reveals that the 2019 Wagon R will be offered in seven variants- LXi, VXi, VXi AGS, ZXi and ZXi AGS. A top- spec ZXi variant will replace the current top- spec VXi+ trim. The smaller motor will be available only in the lower- spec LXi and VXi trims, while the larger engine will be available with the mid-spec VXi and top- spec ZXi variants. The AMT will be offered with both engines, but only above the VXi trim.

    Currently, Maruti Suzuki sells the fourth- gen Wagon R in the country and the upcoming version will be the sixth- generation of the hatchback. The upcoming Wagon R will come with the option of six exterior color options– white, silver, grey, orange, brown and blue. The hatchback currently sells from Rs 4.15 lakh to Rs 5.39 lakh (ex- showroom, Delhi) and is likely to be priced starting at Rs 4.5 lakh and going up to Rs 6.5 lakh (ex- showroom). When launched, the next- gen Maruti Suzuki Wagon R will continue to take against the likes of the Tata Tiago, Renault Kwid and Hyundai Santro in the segment.
