German luxury automaker BMW is preparing to bring the refreshed X1. The compact premium SUV has already been spied at different locations across the globe and now the vehicle has been spied testing in China recently. However, the spied images don’t reveal much about the upcoming BMW X1 as it was partially camouflaged.
According to the spied images, we can see that the entire front fascia, along with the tail-lamps and rear bumper, have been covered in camouflage as well. Hence, we can expect the 2019 X1 to receive mild refreshment only rather than any major update on the compact SUV and also the parts that will receive the updation. The spy shots also show the test mule to be sporting a new alloy wheel design and all of these are expected to make their way to the production spec as well. At the rear, we expect the Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) to sport new LED tail-lamps as well as a reworked bumper.
In terms of powertrain, there is no information about any update or the confirmed details. The existing BMW X1 comes powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine capable of churning out 190 BHP of maximum power and 400 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and does the sprints from 0-100 kmph in just 7.6 seconds in the xDrive and 7.8 seconds in sDrive. The top speed of the xDrive variant is rated at 219 kmph, while the sDrive gets a slightly better top speed of 222 kmph.
What makes it more interesting is the fact that the upcoming X1 has been spied testing in China at the time when Volvo has launched the BMW X1 competitor, the 2018 XC40 in the Indian market. Currently, BMW sells the second generation X1 that was launched two years ago and now, the automaker is bringing a facelift with mid updates. Also, it is not yet clear when the X1 would be officially revealed globally, but it is expected to be sometime in 2019 followed by the launch in the Indian market as well.
The entry-level offering from the German carmaker in India, the BMW X1 comes with prices starting from Rs 34.5 lakh and going all the way up to Rs 44.5 lakh for the top-end version (ex-showroom Delhi). The compact premium SUV comes in three variants- sDrive 20d Expedition, sDrive 20d xLine and xDrive 20d M Sport with features such as six airbags, a panoramic sunroof, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights (DRLs), two-zone climate control and a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay. The vehicle takes against the likes of the Mercedes Benz GLA and Audi Q3 and the upcoming Volvo XC40 in the country.
However, there is no update regarding the India bound updated BMW X1 and it will be too early to comment anything about it till the automaker makes any such announcements or the SAV starts testing in the country.
