The Nissan Leaf is the best selling electric car in the world, and the new-gen Leaf is even a bigger hit. In order to expand the popularity of the Leaf brand, the Japanese automaker has come up with the sportier version of the electric-hatchback, called the Leaf Nismo. The Nissan Leaf Nismo has been specifically tuned by the company’s motorsports and in-house tuning division to offer sportier performance. The Japanese carmaker first showcased the Leaf Nismo as a concept model in October, 2017, and now the production version has been revealed.
The performance centric new Nissan Leaf Nismo is a based on the second generation, which internationally debuted in September last year. The Leaf Nismo aims at offering a more engaging and fun drive experience and further highlight the fact that modern electric vehicles are not only green, but are also fun without actually being expensive. The Nismo badged electric car will get powered by the same 40kWh battery of the Leaf to juice up the alternating current synchronous electric motor. However, the sportier version will get endowed with custom tuning which is aimed at offering better performance. While the standard current-gen Leaf can do the 0 to 100kph sprint in just 7.9 seconds, the new Leaf Nismo is expected to reduce this time significantly.
The Leaf Nismo will also be packed with advanced and intelligent techs including the e-Pedal, which works both as a break and accelerator and the ProPilot Park autonomous driving functionalities, just like the standard Leaf model.
The exterior design of the new Leaf Nismo flaunts a handful of alterations and sporty elements to help it deliver better performance and to mark itself apart from the stock electric hatch. It comes with the patent layered double wings from the Nismo road car series which enhances downforce while also offering good drag coefficient. The Leaf Nismo’s performance oriented identity is also highlighted by the low centre of gravity as well as the new custom made 18 inch aluminium wheels, which also minimizes air resistance. Moreover, there are also 18 inch alloy wheels which are wrapped in Continental ContiSportContact 5 tyres for enhanced grip on the road surface. There are also different dampers as well as an updated electronic stability control system, which are aimed to provide a fine balance between a very comfortable ride as well as stable handling. The hot EV also gets a custom tuned electric power steering wheel, while the Intelligent Trace Control function that offers enhanced stabilization during cornering at higher speeds.
The new Nissan Leaf Nismo is available in the Japanese market with 9 exterior colour options which include the Nismo series custom two-tone colour schemes.
On the inside, the Leaf Nismo prominently flaunts Nismo’s signature custom red accents all over. The dashboard has been made sporty with a custom faux carbon-fibre finish, while the electronic shift has been finished with sporty gun metal chrome.
The sporty Nissan Nismo road car series includes the Juke Nismo, March Nismo, Note Nismo, 370Z Nismo, GT-R Nismo, Serena Nismo and now the Leaf Nismo.
Nissan is stronglyconsidering launching the Leaf EV in India. However, we don’t expect to see the hot Leaf Nismo in ourmarket.
