Exclusive: Tata Curvv To Get Diesel-DCT Automatic; No 1.5L Turbo Petrol | V3Cars

We have recently learned from our source that the Curvv won’t get the powertrains we were earlier expecting. Let’s discuss all the Curvv engine options for Curvv petrol as well as Curvv diesel buyers.

Update (Jul 22, 2024): Based on the latest information from our source, we have updated this article to reflect the most accurate details we have about the Curvv diesel and Curvv petrol engine options.

Expected: Tata Curvv New 1.2L Turbo Petrol Engine

The source has confirmed to us that the Curvv will get a new 1.2L turbo petrol engine with direct injection. As reported earlier, this new engine will make 125PS of power and 225Nm of torque and will get the 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission options.

Surprise: Tata Curvv Old 1.2L Turbo Petrol Engine

This came as a surprise when the source said that the Curvv will also get the old 1.2L turbo petrol engine with multi-point fuel injection (MPFI). This engine currently does duty in the Nexon and it’ll also get the 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This engine will make the same 120PS of power and 170Nm of torque as the Nexon petrol.

Shocker 1: No 1.5L Turbo Petrol For The Curvv

We also received some shocking bit of information. Firstly, the source confirmed to us that the Curvv will not get a 1.5L turbo petrol engine — at least not at the time of launch. Tata have confirmed that they are working on this new engine options, which they showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo.

Shocker 2: Tata Curvv 1.5L Diesel-DCT Automatic

The bigger shock came when the source informed us that the Tata Curvv will get the same 1.5L turbo diesel engine with manual as well as 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The 115PS of power and 260Nm of torque from this engine are to be expected with the 6-speed manual transmission. But the inclusion of 7-speed DCT makes things interesting as it’s extremely rare to see a diesel engine with a DCT automatic.

So, to sum up, the Curvv will get the following powertrain options:

We still expect Tata to give the Curvv the more powerful 1.5L turbo petrol engine in the future. After all, the C-SUV segment cars like the Creta, Seltos, Kushaq and Taigun already get a 1.5L turbo petrol. So, we shouldn’t expect Tata to lag in this regard.
