Tata Motors is setting up to introduce a new XZ variant of its sub-4m SUV, the Nexon which was launched in September 2017. The compact SUV currently has 4 trim levels - XE, XM, XT and XZ+. In the current pricing strategy by Tata, the price gap between XT and XZ+ variants is Rs. 1.45 lakh and between all other variants is around or less than Rs. 75,000. According to the leaked brochure, the new variant is going to be placed in between the XT and and the top-spec XZ+, in order to reduce the price gap, making the total number of variants five. There is no official confirmation from Tata motors about a new variant, but it is expected to be launched soon.
As per the leaked brochure, the XZ variant of Nexon will recieve features like projector headlamps, height adjustable front seats and adjustable seat belts, electrically foldable and adjustable body-coloured ORVMs (outside rearview mirrors) which are not available on the XT variant, and park assist with rear parking camera with sensors and dynamic guidelines. In comparison to the top-spec XZ+ variant, the XZ variant will miss out on the LED DRLs, front & rear fog lamps and rear defogger mps, push-button start and 16-inch dual-tone alloys, front and rear central armrests along with a 60:40 split folding rear seat.
Being the second variant in the specifications, the Nexon XZ will be packed with a host of features such as a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with an 8-speaker system from Harman and Android Auto and the system also allows you to read & reply to WhatsApp messages with voice commands. It also gets day/night IRVM (internal rearview mirror), automatic climate control with rear vents, ooled glove box and a USB fast charger. The safety features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD are same across all variants. This also indicates that buyers no longer need to spend a lot of money on the top-end XZ+ variant just to get their hands on the features like floating touchscreen infotainment system and tambour doors.
Tata presents the Nexon with two engine options - a 3-cylinder 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 110PS @ 5,000 rpm of power and 170Nm of torque @ 1,750 - 4,000 rpm and a 4-cylinder 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine which is good for 110PS @ 3,750 rpm and 260Nm of torque @ 1,500 - 2,750 rpm. Both the engines are combined to a 6-speed manual transmission and offer three driving modes - Eco, City and Sport.
The Nexon XZ is expected to be priced at a premium of around Rs 60,000 more than the XT variant, which is currently priced at Rs 7.32 lakh (petrol) and Rs 8.17 lakh (diesel) (ex-showroom Delhi). Apart from this, the XZ+ variant is priced at Rs 8.57 lakh and Rs 9.42 lakh, which is around Rs 1.25 lakh more than XT variant.
