Tata Nexon has secured 5- star ratings in the Global NCAP crash test results. Earlier this year, the Global NCAP had crash tested the Tata Nexon SUV as part of its #SaferCarsForIndia campaign where the car had four stars in the adult occupant protection category. The automaker made some changes in the Nexon and now the sub- compact SUV has achieved 5- star ratings in the same category. This is also the highest adult occupant safety score of (16.06 / 17.00) amongst all the models tested across the Indian market. For Child occupant safety, the Nexon achieved the same 3- star rating. With this achievement, the Nexon is the first and only car in India to receive this rating.
Speaking about this new achievement by the Nexon, Mayank Pareek, President– PVBU, Tata Motors, said, “The Indian car-buyers are increasingly rating safety as one of the topmost parameters while making a car purchase. The features responsible for the five- star ratings for the Tata Nexon –
Dual- frontal airbags and seatbelts with pre-tensioner, load-limiter & crash-locking tongue (CLT for driver occupant) which prevents the uncontrolled forward movement of the occupant and avoids injuries as well as the driver foot- well area reinforced with pedal blockers to prevent the feet injuries in the event of an unfortunate crash.
The car also offers ABS with EBD and corner stability control as standard offering, Child-safety door locks, Voice-based alerts, rear parking assistance and Front fog lamps with cornering assistance, which ensure an all-round safety while driving on the road. Additionally, ISOFIX anchorage for child seat and front co-passenger seat belt reminder come as a standard offering.
Not only the advanced safety features, but the Energy- absorbing body structure with high-strength steel construction and critical reinforcements, make the Nexon effectively absorb the impact energy and provide a stable load- path for protecting the passenger compartment from deformation.
The Tata Nexon is available in five variants - XE, XM, XT, XZ and XZ+ with prices ranging between Rs 6.22 lakh and Rs 10.66 lakh (ex- showroom, Delhi). The Tata Nexon gets the choice of a 1.2- litre turbo- petrol engine producing 108 bhp and 170 Nm and a 1.5- litre diesel engine making 108 bhp and 260 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines come with a 6- speed manual transmission or a 6- speed AMT.
