Tata Motors is leaving no stones unturned to lure the customers by offering new technologies and new models of their products in the country. To attract more customers for the Nexon, the Indian auto giant has launched a new XMA trim for the compact SUV priced at 7.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the petrol version and Rs 8.53 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the diesel models . With this introduction, the Nexon range will henceforth have two AMT variants – XMA & XZA+ which will be offered in 1.2L turbocharged Revotron petrol and 1.5L turbocharged Revotorq diesel engines respectively.
The Tata Nexon XMA is the currently the most compact SUV and also the first AMT in India to offer Multi-Drive modes (3 modes – ECO, CITY and SPORT). The compact SUV a ground clearance of 209 mm, and also offers an all-new "Ivory White" roof-color option to further accentuate the Coupe-inspired design of the Tata Nexon. In terms of features, the Nexon AMT gets the transmission controller with features such as anti-stall, kick-down and fast-off; helping optimize the automatic gearshifts to provide best power output while overtaking on roads or quick acceleration requirements with 108 bhp of power output from turbocharged mills.
Commenting on the launch, Tata Motors Predsident PV Business Unit, Mayank Pareek said, "Automated gear shift is becoming popular in India and for us it accounts for 25 per cent of sales of our models which have AMT. The introduction of AMT in one more variant of Nexon underlines the company's expectations of how demand for AMT will grow in future. The potential is such that in five years, every second car sold could be an AMT.”
The safety features include dual frontal airbags and ABS with electronic brake-force distribution in all wheels along with Smart Hill Assist and Crawl function. While the Smart Hill Assist prevents the NEXON from rolling-back on uphill drives during bumper-to-bumper traffic, the Crawl function comes into play during slow-moving traffic by helping the car move ahead without pressing the accelerator. Other than these, it also gets spacious cabin along with a 350L boot space and rear 60:40 seat split to store extra luggage.
The AMT version of the Nexon was launched in May 2018 and Tata Motors branded all its 2 pedal transmission cars as ‘HyprDrive’ while all the AMT variants from the Company were termed as Self-Shift Gears (S-SG). The AMT trim of Nexon, XZA+ received an overwhelming response from the buyers. In order to capture more market share and customer mind space as a part of its on-going Turnaround 2.0 journey, Tata Motors introduced the AMT in its mid-variant. Now, the automaker is striving to maintain its growth momentum in the domestic market by continuously introducing advance technologies in its products.
With the newly introduced Nexon AMT, the petrol-powered Nexon XMA comes at a price tag of Rs 59,000 over the XM variant whereas the diesel comes for an extra cost of Rs 70,000. With this pricing bracket, the newly launched Nexon XMA AMT takes against the likes of the recently updated Maruti Vitara Brezza in the segment. The AMT range of Breeza starts from Rs 8.54 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The difference between the new variant and the Nexon XZA+ petrol is Rs 1.91 lakh while the diesel XZA+ is Rs 1.86 lakh more expensive than the XMA variant.
