Indian auto giant Tata Motors has finally launched the much awaited automatic version of the Nexon in the country. The automaker likes to call it HyprDrive and has priced the car at Rs 9.41 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the petrol version and while the diesel is priced at Rs 10.3 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). However, the Nexon AMT is only available with the top-end XZA+ variant on both the petrol and the diesel and the advanced bookings for the car started in April this year.
Talking about the Tata Nexon AMT, Mayank Pareek, President- Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said, "Our focus is to introduce products and services that not only enhance the brand, but simultaneously align well with the rising aspirations of customer segments. AMT as a transmission is ideally suited for India's traffic conditions, reducing the stress of driving at an affordable price, without compromising on fuel efficiency. With the introduction of the Hyprdrive S-SG in the NEXON, we aim to tap a larger market and increase our market share in not only the Compact SUV segment but also the AMT segment. Additionally, understanding the growing need for personalization among Indian customers, we are introducing the 'IMAGINATOR' - our online platform to visualize and customize the NEXON."
In terms of design and features, the newly launched Nexon AMT is identical to the standard version of the car. According to the company, Nexon AMT is the first car in India to offer driving modes along with an AMT unit. The car also gets a 'creep' function which helps with the driving in heavy traffic, smart hill assist which keeps the car from rolling back when it begins to move on a slope as well as an intelligent transmission controller which offers features such as anti-stall, kick-down and fast-off.
The AMT version of Tata Nexon draws power from the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine. While the petrol engine produces 108bhp and 170Nm of torque, the diesel engine churns out 108bhp and 260Nm of torque. Both the engines are mated to a 6-speed AMT gearbox. The car also offers a manual mode which automatically engages the sport mode along with multiple driving modes such as Eco, City and Sport as standard.
Like the exterior, the interior of the Tata Nexon AMT is also identical to the standard Nexon. The features include a 6.5-inch floating dash-top touchscreen infotainment with next-gen smartphone connectivity and an exclusively tuned 8-speaker system from Harman-Kardon and Android Auto. The Tata Nexon AMT is available with a new dual-tone orange and silver color scheme differentiating it from the manual variants.
