Tata Motors have announced the Punch small SUV has achieved the 4 lakh sales milestone. The latest sales milestone was achieved in just 34 months, which Tata says makes the Punch the fastest-selling SUV in India. Let’s take a brief look at the Tata Punch’s journey so far.
Tata Punch: Road To 4 Lakh Sales Milestone
- October 2021: Tata Punch small SUV launched at a starting price of 5.49 lakh. At launch, Tata Motors offered the Punch with a 1.2-litre petrol engine with 2 transmission options – a 5-speed manual and automated manual transmission (AMT). It was available in a wide range of variants.
- August 2022: Tata Punch achieves 1 lakh sales milestone
- Jan 2023: Tata Motors showcase upcoming Punch CNG with twin CNG cylinder tech aimed at improving boot space at 2023 Auto Expo
- May 2023: Tata Punch achieves 2 lakh sales milestone
- August 2023: Tata launch Punch CNG with twin CNG cylinder tech in 5 variants with a starting price of Rs. 7.10 lakh (ex-showroom)
- Jan 2024: Tata launch Punch EV based on their new Acti.ev platform. Priced from 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom)
- August 2024: Tata Punch achieves 4 lakh sales milestone
Speaking on this latest accomplishment, Mr. Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., said:

Over the years, the Tata Punch received a few price hikes due to various reasons such as rising input costs and inflation. The Tata Punch petrol’s prices currently range from Rs. 6.13 lakh to Rs. 10.20 lakh. The Punch CNG is priced from Rs. 7.23 lakh to Rs. 9.85 lakh. The Punch EV is currently priced from Rs. 10.99 lakh to Rs. 15.49 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).

2024 Tata Punch And Punch EV Powertrain Specs
The Tata Punch petrol and CNG are powered by a 1.2L naturally aspirated engine. The Punch petrol produces 88PS of power and 115Nm of torque. The Punch CNG, which is only available with the 5-speed manual transmission, produces 74PS of power and 103Nm of torque.
The Tata Punch EV is available with 2 battery capacities – 25kWh and 35kWh. The former offers a range of 315km and produces 82PS of power and 114Nm of torque. The Punch EV equipped with the larger battery pack promises a range of 421km and it produces 122PS of power and 190Nm of torque.
2024 Tata Punch Rivals
The Tata Punch petrol and CNG variants rivals other small SUVs like the Hyundai Exter, Citroen C3, Nissan Magnite and the Renault Kiger. It also competes with hatchbacks that offer a high ground clearance, like the Maruti Suzuki Ignis.
The Tata Punch EV competes with the Citroen eC3 at the higher end and MG Comet EV at the lower end in terms of price.
