Tata Motors has officially confirmed Diwali launch for the upcoming Tiago JTP in the Indian market. The manufacturer will also launch three other models alongside the Tiago JTP. Tata Motors’ officials confirmed the same at the launch of the new Tata Tiago NRG — the crossover form of the regular Tiago hatchback. However, the automaker didn’t confirm about the other three models but we can expect them to be the H5X and H7X SUVs, along with the premium hatchback 45X.
Confirming the Diwali launch for the Tiago JTP, Mayank Pareek, President -Passenger Vehicle Business Unit at Tata Motors, said that a JTP model is part of the four launches Tata has scheduled for this festive season, and it will be introduced in the market in the 'next eight weeks'. Though he avoided specifying which of the JTPs it would be, we can expect that it will be the Tiago JTP hatchback that will come first as it has been in the news for its year end launch in the country for quite some time.
Under the hood, the upcoming Tiago JTP will sport the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine borrowed from the Nexon and capable of producing 110 hp of power and 150 Nm of peak torque. The output figures of the JTP version of Tiago will give a significant advantage over the standard model’s naturally aspirated 85 hp engine. Tata Motors will also optimize the gear ratios on the standard five-speed manual gearbox in order to improve the acceleration in the upcoming hatchback. Also, in the transformation process, the handling will also be upgraded with the Tiago JTP running a specially reworked suspension, lowered springs and a slightly reduced ride height, in order to give the hatchback a more purposeful stance.
Other features to distinguish the Tiago JTP from the standard version of the hatchback are the front bumper now sporting a large air dam, exaggerated housings for the fog lamps with the elements further embellished with contrasting red detailing and the bonnet and fenders also featuring air vents. Other than these the upcoming model will also feature smoked projector headlamps, side skirts and a rear diffuser while the sides sporting 15- inch diamond cut alloy wheels.
The interior of the hatchback will be offered with an all-black theme, a rich leather finish on the seats and steering with funky red contrast stitching as well as aluminium pedals. We can also expect the same 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired to an eight-speaker sound system from Harman as seen on the recently launched Tiago NRG.
The term JTP stands for Jayem Tata Performance — the collaboration of Tata Motors with Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives. Though, the pricing details have not been revealed but according to Mayank Pareek, the Tiago JTP will be about Rs 1 lakh more than the standard, top-of-the-line Tiago petrol. This means that it'll cost an estimated Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom, India), when launched. Tata Motors is also working on bringing the JTP version of the Tigor soon. Both the performance versions of the Tiago and Tigor were first unveiled at Auto Expo 2018, held back in February 2018. Other than these two, an all-electric Nano made by Jayem Automotive was recently caught in camera. Though the automaker has confirmed the Diwali launch for the hatchback, but the official launch date is yet to be revealed.
