The Jeep Renegade test prototype sightings are nothing new, as the smallest Jeep product has been testing in our country for quite some time now. The Jeep Renegade has been one of the most highly anticipated upcoming launches alongside the Jeep Compass. Now that the Compass has gloriously launched in India with a highly competitive price range, the focus has shifted to the upcoming Renegade, which will be even more affordable than the Compass and will be the new cheapest model from Jeep India. The Jeep Renegade has been caught testing on the Indian roads once again, and this time around it has been spotted by some auto enthusiasts in Pune.
As usual the spied test prototype model of the Jeep Renegade is draped heavily in camouflage to hide all its exterior styling details. However, by now, we know quite a few design elements that the Renegade will most probably be flaunting in its outside, while recently its cabin has also been spied.
The Jeep Renegade commenced its test schedule in India back in the month of January 2016, which instantly resulted in the rumour mills turning about the approaching launch of this Jeep SUV. As per the latest reports, the Renegade will be hitting the car market of India only in the second half of 2019 in its global facelifted version. Thus, there is still time before we can actually get to experience this entry-level model from the iconic American SUV maker.
The Jeep Renegade is the smallest in the Jeep lineup and is underpinned by the Fiat 500X’s platform. It will be placed below the Compass in India and will go up against the compact SUV models in the country. When dimensions are concerned, the global Jeep Renegade measures 4,236 mm in length, 1,805 mm in width and 1,667 mm in height. It rides on a wheelbase of 2,570 mm and offers a boot space of 354 litres. Thus, if it comes with the same dimensions for the Indian car market it will not be a sub-4 meter compact SUV.
Under its hood, the India-spec Jeep Renegade is expected to be packing in a 1.4 Litre Multiair petrol mill, while there would also be a 1.6 Litre Multijet diesel motor choice.
Just like the Jeep Compass, the Renegade will also be locally manufactured at Fiat India’s Ranjangaon facility to price it aggressively. It is said that the Renegade will have high levels of localization to check its pricing. Jeep India is also expected to export the Renegade to the offshore RHD markets similar to the Compass.
We expect to see a whole bunch of Jeep Renegade test prototypes doing the test round on the Indian roads, as FCA India is reportedly going to carry out component testing for its future products with Renegade test mules. As per the speculations, among the upcoming Jeep models in India will be new subcompact SUV model which will come to fight with the likes of the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport.
