Top 10 Features Of MG Windsor EV Pro | V3Cars

Now that all the details of the Windsor Pro are available, here are the top 10 features of the car, which it gets over the older Windsor top model.

Top 10 Features Of MG Windsor EV Pro

1. Bigger Battery

So far, whenever MG bring an EV to India from their international portfolio, they never bring the largest battery option for the particular car. They did that with the Comet EV, which sells in certain markets as Wuling Air EV and gets a 26.7kWh battery option. But what do we get? The smaller, 17.3kWh battery pack.

Same with the ZS EV, which gets up to 72.6kWh battery pack option but we get 50.3kWh pack.

Same with the Windsor EV, which sells in other markets as Wuling Cloud EV or Baojun Yunduo. It gets up to 50.6kWh battery pack option while we got it with the smaller 37.9kWh battery pack, which may be marketed to us as a 38kWh battery pack for the sake of simplicity.

MG are fixing this pain point, and for the first time, they are giving the Windsor/Yunduo/Cloud EV a battery pack that is larger than anything available in the international market. Even in certain foreign markets, the Yunduo/Cloud EV get up to a 50.6kWh battery pack while the Indian version of the car called the Windsor EV Pro gets a 52.9kWh battery pack.

2. Longer Range

With the bigger battery pack, the Windsor also gets a longer range. The Windsor EV Essence Pro variant with the 52.9kWh battery pack has a claimed range figure of 449km on a full charge. This gives us an official mileage figure of 8.49kmpu. With the smaller, 38kWh battery pack, the Windsor has a claimed range of 332km, thus resulting in a mileage figure of 8.74kmpu.

The additional weight of the battery pack seems to have affected the mileage of the car by about 0.25kmpu.

As far as the real-world range goes, the Windsor suffers about 19% deviation in real world driving and can easily deliver 270km of range. Assuming a similar deviation for the larger battery pack, we can expect a real-world range of about 365km.

3. Faster Charging

With the larger battery also comes waiting while you’re at a charging stop. So, the Windsor EV Essence Pro variant with the larger battery pack gets peak DC fast charging speeds of up to 60kW. This is up from 45kW for the 38kWh variants. Hence, the 20-80% fast charging time remains almost the same — 60 minutes.

4. ADAS Features

The ADAS features are also available with the Baojun Yunduo in the Chinese markets and finally, the Indian audience will also get them in the Windsor Essence Pro variant. The car doesn’t get an ADAS kit as elaborate and as advanced as that of the Mahindra EVs, but we do get the following ADAS features:

  • Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go traffic assist
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane keep assist
  • Lane follow assist
  • Forward collision warning
  • Forward collision avoidance assist
  • Auto high beam

Another feature, which the Windsor gets in foreign markets is the powered tail gate. This is now also available in the Windsor Pro variant. However, it doesn’t get the handsfree open or gesture control.

6. New Alloy Wheel Design

Now, this is a feature, which may be specific to the Indian market. The current design of the alloy wheels looks bland as wheel covers. The newer design looks a lot more sporty.

7. V2L & V2V Capability

The larger battery pack, the Windsor also gets V2V and V2L capabilities. With the adapter accessory, the Windsor Pro variant will be able to dish out up to 3kW of AC power, which you can use to run any peripherals, accessories or even charge another electric car or 2-wheeler.

8. New Colour Options

Along with the update, the Windsor also gets the following 3 new exterior colour options:

  • Silver (Aurora silver)
  • Blue (Celadon blue)
  • Red (Glaze red)

Given limited demand for the beige colour option, MG have discontinued it even from the smaller battery variants of the Windsor.

9. Beige Interiors

While the beige colour may be gone from the exterior, it has trickled into the interiors. The Windsor Pro variant gets a beige and black dual-tone interior theme.

10. New Top Variant

All of the features mentioned so far will come loaded in a new top variant, which will sit above the current lineup of 3 trims. So, in addition to the Excite, Exclusive and Essence variants, the Windsor now also gets the Essence Pro variant, which costs Rs. 17.50 lakh. This price tag is about Rs. 1.35 lakh higher than the Essence top variant of the Windsor.
