Toyota is bringing the Camry Hybrid sedan to the Indian market on 18th January 2019. Few days ago, the Japanese automaker listed the upcoming sedan on their official Indian website with its first teaser revealing some of the significant details about the car. Recently, Toyota dropped a second teaser video showing some design highlights of the car including the headlamps, wheels and an eco- gauge for the hybrid system about the next- gen Camry. The all- new Camry was first showcased at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show.

Toyota had unveiled the India- bound ASEAN- spec Camry sedan in Thailand earlier in October this year. The model comes based on the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform and measuring longer by 35 mm, wider by 15 mm and taller by 25 mm than the predecessor with a 50 mm longer wheel base. The first teaser revealed that the sedan gets a V- shaped grille that integrates with the headlamps and a large air dam being the prominent highlight of the front end. According to Toyota, it’s the new 'Keen Look' design language. At the rear, the upcoming sedan gets a sleeker pair of taillights along with a boot lip spoiler while riding on 17- inch multi- spoke alloy wheels.

Talking about the interior, the 2019 Camry Hybrid will offer significant changes such as the centre console will get a new eight- inch touchscreen unit with a digital screen for instrument console, practical storage places, soft- touch material, wireless charging, dual- zone climate control, and a spacious cabin with powered seats. Other than these, 10 airbags and a host of active and passive safety equipments will be offered as well.

Mechanically, the Thailand- spec new Toyota Camry comes with a 2.0- litre, four- cylinder petrol engine with direct- injection technology on the base models. The engine is capable of producing 167 bhp of maximum power and 199 Nm of peak torque and comes mated to a 6- speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Other than this, mid- spec variant of the Camry will come powered by a 2.5-litre Dynamic Force Engine churning out 209 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. Transmission options include an 8-speed automatic gearbox. A 2.5-litre, four-cylinder hybrid motor paired to a CVT gearbox will be on offer to empower the top variants of the sedan delivering a combined power output of 211 bhp and 202 Nm of maximum torque. In order to maintain a low centre of gravity, the batteries are fitted beneath the rear passenger seats inside the car. On the other hand, the Indian- spec all- new Toyota Camry Hybrid will get the same 2.5- litre four- cylinder hybrid- petrol powertrain as the existing model. The engine is capable of producing 175 bhp of maximum power and 221 Nm of peak torque which is mated to an 88 kW electric motor. On the other hand, the 208 bhp powertrain will get a six- speed CVT as the only transmission option.
