After seeing a marginal growth in the sales in the beginning of this year, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has seen a decline in volumes for March 2018. The Japanese automaker saw a decline of 16 per cent 13,537 units last month (domestic and exports) as compared to 14,432 units sold in March 2017. In domestic market, the automaker sold a total of 12,539 units last month and 998 units of the Etios were exported while 13,796 units were sold in the domestic market in March 2017, and 636 units of the Toyota Etios range were exported outside the country.
Commenting on the sales performance by the company, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Deputy Managing Director, N. Raja said, "We are happy to have registered a positive growth of 3 per cent in the first quarter as compared to Jan - March 2017. The Yaris bookings for customer will open from April and we expect customers will highly appreciate the product. Our dealerships are already getting good number of customer enquiries on Yaris. We are thankful to our customers for their continued trust and loyalty to the brand. We hope to maintain a positive growth momentum in sales in the upcoming month."
Talking about the last quarter between January-18 and March-18 for the 2017-18 fiscal year the company registered an overall growth of 3 per cent, as compared to the same period last year. Toyota also stated that sales of the Fortuner grew by 83 per cent in FY2017-18, as compared to the previous financial year as well as the Toyota Corolla Altis saw sales grow by 16 per cent during the previous fiscal, over FY2016-17.
Moving ahead, Toyota had showcased the Yaris sedan at the 2018 Auto Expo in the country this year in February. The manufacturer has recently announced the official launch date for the sedan to be on 18th May next month and the official advanced bookings for the same will commence from 22nd April this month at all the Toyota dealerships across the country. The Yaris will go on sale with a 1.5-litre petrol engine at the time of launch, mated to both manual and automatic transmission options and will take against the likes of the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and others in the segment. Toyota is bidding high with the all-new sedan in the country and hoping to improve their sales volume with the sedan in the country and abroad.
