After a hiatus of 3 years, the iconic Land Cruiser nameplate is making its return to the US with the new LC 250 series. The Land Cruiser 250 sits between the 70 series and LC300 and serves as a replacement to the Land Cruiser Prado. Read on to know more about the Land Cruiser 250.

The idea of the Land Cruiser 250 is simple — to resurrect the popularity of the Land Cruiser nameplate in the US market with the help of an affordable price tag and retro design inspired by the FJ60 Land Cruiser. It is also a lot smaller than the full-size 3-row Land Cruiser LC300, which is currently on sale in Indian at an eye-watering price of over Rs. 2.2 crores (ex-showroom).

But don’t discard the Land Cruiser 250 as an affordable rip-off, since it makes use of the same GA-F platform as the LC300 that offers renowned off-road prowess. Before delving further into the details, let’s take a quick look at the way it looks. If you are into retro design, you will love the Land Cruiser 250 First Edition, which incorporates round headlights along with other retro bits and is limited to just 5,000 units. Other design details of the 250 include an upswing in the windowline towards the C-pillar and vertically stacked LED tail lights.

On the features front, the Land Cruiser 250 comes packed with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and over-the-air (OTA) updates. Other features include a digital instrument cluster, terrain response modes, wireless charging, Type-C charging ports, digital key, panoramic sunroof, a 14-speaker JBL sound system, digital rearview monitor and a head-up display.

Speaking of powertrain options, the Land Cruiser 250 keeps it straightforward with a 2.4L turbocharged petrol engine. Coupled with a 48V hybrid system that draws power from a 1.87kWh battery pack, the combined power and torque output of the Land Cruiser 250 stands at 330PS and 630Nm of torque. The engine transmits the power to all 4 wheels via an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission. For superior off-road performance, the 250 also offers full-time 4WD with a 2-speed transfer case.

Will The Land Cruiser 250 Grace Our Indian Roads?

While Toyota India are yet to share their plans about the same, it is unlikely to hit our shores anytime soon. As part of their global market plan, the Land Cruiser 250 will initially go on sale in North America, China and a few parts of Europe. Toyota already offer the Land Cruiser LC300 as their flagship model in India, which comes with a diesel V6 powertrain. The smaller Land Cruiser 250 rivals other hardcore 4WD SUVs like the Jeep Wrangler, Ford Bronco and Land Rover Defender.
