Toyota Recall Camry, Vellfire And Land Cruiser Over Rear Camera Glitch

Details Of The Toyota Recall

According to the official SIAM statement, the affected vehicles are equipped with a Parking Assist ECU, a key component of the Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) system. An error in the ECu software may lead to either of the following issues:

  • The rear view image may freeze temporarily while reversing, if reverse gear is selected shortly after the ignition is turned on.
  • The rear camera feed may fail to display the next time the car is started, if the ignition is cycled on or off within a specified time window.

The recall affects 2,257 units of the Camry, 1,862 units of Vellfire, and 744 units of the Land Cruiser, manufactured between mid-2023 and mid-2025.

Possible Safety Implications

While the issue does not directly affect the car’s drivability or mechanical systems, the temporary loss or freezing of the rear camera feed could reduce rearward visibility during reversing, especially in tight spaces and crowded areas. This may potentially increase the risk of minor collisions.

Toyota’s Response And What Owners Should Do

Toyota have confirmed that the recall campaign will involve an inspection and reprogramming of the affected ECU, free of charge to customers. Dealers will reach out to owners of the affected vehicles individually.

If you own a Camry, Vellfire, or Land Cruiser manufactured between May 2023 and July 2025, you are advised to:

  • Contact your nearest Toyota dealership to confirm whether your vehicle is part of this recall.
  • Alternatively, reach out Toyota’s customer care at 1800 309 0001 for assistance.
