Price Reaction

Now, let’s examine the launch and expected prices in a little more detail.

1.2L Normal Petrol-MT

The 1.2L petrol variants came at a little higher price than the Fronx. We didn’t get all 3 prices spot on but we expected the higher variants to carry a higher price gap over the comparable Fronx variants. We saw a similar pricing strategy with the Ertiga vs Rumion. Thus, the S Plus manual’s price was more accurate than others.

1.2L Petrol-AMT

With the AMT variants too, it’s the same story. One interesting thing worth noting is that the price difference between manual and automatic variants is Rs. 53,000. For AMT automatic, Maruti Suzuki earlier used to have a Rs. 50,000 gap, which then went up to Rs. 55,000 and then, with the 2024 new year, it dropped back to Rs. 50,000.

1.2L CNG-MT

In the Taisor CNG prices, we were within our acceptable margin of error. But the strange thing that happened with this is that the Taisor CNG is only available in 1 CNG trim, the base model. Perhaps the Delta CNG is in strong demand and Maruti can’t afford to hand over all of their production to Toyota. Once that demand cools down, we may see it become available with the Taisor as well.

1.0L Turbo Petrol-MT, Auto

Similar to the S CNG variant, the S Plus turbo manual also is absent from the Taisor’s brochure. Thus, Toyota don’t have any turbo petrol variant of the Taisor under Rs. 10.0 lakh, which leaves the Fronx with some exclusivity.

With the turbo variants, our expectations were accurate enough to earn passing marks. But in our heart of hearts, we know that we are off. If you had been through our most recent update of the Taisor Expected Price article, you’d perhaps give some credence to the possibility we bought up under the Fixing The Turbo heading.

Fixing The Turbo

Toyota have the opportunity to correct that and make it come across as more reasonably-priced by charging a lower premium for the turbo petrol engine. Otherwise, we’re fairly confident that the rest of the pricing may remain in line with our estimations.

This turned out to be true. Somewhat. While Toyota didn’t make the Taisor turbo cheaper, they aren’t charging any premium for the same over the Fronx turbo. Thus, between the Fronx turbo and Taisor turbo, the Taisor comes across as a better deal as it also offers better warranty coverage.

The 1.2L variants of the Taisor carry some premium for the Toyota badge over the comparable Fronx Delta. But the turbo petrol variants cost the same as the comparable Fronx turbo variants. Hence, the jump to the turbo petrol comes across as more reasonable in the case of the Taisor than the Fronx despite the same prices for the turbo variants of the two cars.

For instance, the price jump from Fronx Delta 1.2L petrol-MT to Zeta turbo petrol-MT will cost you Rs. 2.18 lakh. In the case of the Taisor, the price gap between the S 1.2L petrol-MT and G turbo petrol-MT is Rs. 1.96 lakh.
