Upcoming CNG SUVs In India 2022 | V3Cars
In the wake of rising petrol and diesel fuel prices, customers are now on the lookout for cost-effective, alternative fuel options. The demand for CNG vehicles has seen a steep rise in the past few months and car manufacturers have noticed this uptick in demand. Several carmakers are now set to offer CNG variants of their popular SUVs soon.
Here’s a list of upcoming CNG SUVs that are likely to go on sale in 2022.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG
Toyota have opened bookings for the upcoming Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG will offer a claimed fuel efficiency of 26.10kmpkg with the 1.5L normal petrol engine. We expect the 1.5L petrol-CNG engine to offer 87.83PS of power @ 5500rpm and 121.5Nm of torque at 4200rpm. Toyota will offer the Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG in S and G variants with features like LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED tail lights, 6 airbags, reverse parking camera, ambient lighting, Arkamys sound system, 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Toyota will reveal the prices of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG in the coming weeks.
Tata Punch CNG
Tata Motors are betting big on CNG models and have tasted success with their recently launched Tiago and Tigor CNG. Soon, Tata Motors will expand their CNG lineup with the launch of the Punch CNG, which has been spied on test multiple times. The Punch CNG will use the same 1.2L normal petrol engine seen in the Tiago and Tigor CNG. The power and torque output are likely to be similar to the Tiago and Tigor CNG’s figures, at 72PS and 95Nm respectively.
Tata Nexon CNG
Tata Motors are currently testing the Nexon CNG ahead of its launch this year. The Nexon CNG was one of the first CNG cars to go on test with a turbo petrol engine. It is likely to be the first turbocharged CNG option in the market, if the launch takes place on time. The Nexon CNG will come with a 1.2L turbo petrol engine and a 6-speed manual transmission. The power and torque output will see a considerable dip when driven with CNG. The Tata Nexon CNG will go up against other sub-compact CNG SUVs like the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG, Kia Sonet CNG and Hyundai Venue CNG.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG
Maruti Suzuki are currently gearing up to launch the 2022 Brezza CNG in the Indian market. The 2022 Brezza is likely to offer a CNG option with the normal petrol engine. It will use the new 1.5L dualjet normal petrol engine along with a factory-fitted CNG kit. This new powertrain made its debut with the Ertiga facelift. The Ertiga CNG produces 88PS of power and 121Nm of torque while mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. We expect the power and torque figures to remain the same in the Brezza CNG as well.

Maruti Nexa Grand Vitara CNG
After the launch of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG, Maruti Suzuki will also play their card in the booming SUV space with the Grand Vitara CNG. While its launch is yet to be confirmed, it will share its powertrain with the Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG and come in Delta and Zeta trims. We expect the 1.5L petrol-CNG engine to offer 87.83PS of power @ 5500rpm and 121.5Nm of torque at 4200rpm. The same powertrain also powers the Maruti Nexa XL6 in the same state of tune. Maruti Suzuki could bring the Grand Vitara CNG to the market in December 2022.
Kia Sonet CNG
Kia India recently started testing the Sonet CNG on open roads. A test car spied recently revealed that Kia are testing the Sonet CNG with the 1.0L turbo petrol and not with the 1.2L normal petrol engine. The Sonet 1.0L turbo petrol produces 120PS of power and 172Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed auto-clutch manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. We expect Kia India to offer the 1.0L turbo petrol CNG with the 6-speed auto-clutch manual transmission. Like every other CNG model, the power and torque figures in the Sonet CNG will witness a dip too.
