What Are The Dimensions Of 2020 Hyundai Creta Petrol?

The 2020 Hyundai Creta is almost as long, wide and tall as the Kia Seltos. So, if you’ve seen the Kia Seltos on the road, expect the 2020 Creta to look just as big. The boot space is exactly as big as the Kia Seltos. And, since it’s based on the Seltos’ platform, the wheelbase measures exactly the same at 433 litres. However, both the cars are smaller in every possible way than the 2020 Renault Duster BS6. But the Duster is starting to look old now that it has been on sale for almost a decade with the same design and silhouette.

What Are The Petrol Engines Specs Of 2020 Hyundai Creta Petrol?

The 2020 Hyundai Creta is available with 2 petrol engines - a 1.5-litre normal and a 1.35-litre turbo. The engine options are exactly the same as the Kia Seltos. The normal petrol engine is good for a respectable 115PS of power and 144Nm of torque, which comes at 4500rpm. It’s available with a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic transmission. It returns a claimed fuel efficiency of 16.8kmpl with the manual transmission and 16.9kmpl with the automatic.

This engine is a fair bit more powerful than the Duster’s but has only a hair better torque and that too at 500rpm higher in the rev range. The Duster BS6, though, is only available with a 5-speed manual and there’s no automatic transmission available. A turbo petrol engine and a CVT automatic transmission are expected to be available with the Duster in coming months.

The 1.35-litre turbo petrol engine of the Creta makes 140PS of power - 25PS more than the bigger engine - and at 300 fewer RPMs compared to the normal petrol engine. More importantly, it makes a meaty 242Nm of torque, which is available from as low as 1500rpm and stays put till 3200rpm offering significantly stronger bottom and mid-range performance without having to rev its guts out.

This engine is available in the Kia Seltos with a 6-speed manual as well as a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. In the Creta, the 6-speed manual transmission is not available. It’s also a bit better on the petrol mileage and promises 16.8kmpl as per ARAI tests.

This variant has all the basic must-have features covered and a few more, which you would not have expected at this price just a few years ago. This is a great starting point if you’re looking to buy the 2020 Creta and are on a tight budget.

Is S Variant Of The 2020 Hyundai Creta Petrol Worth Buying?

The S variant of the 2020 Hyundai Creta costs Rs. 11.72 lakh. Compared to the EX variant, the S is Rs. 1.73 lakh more expensive. For the added sum, you get:

  • Front fog lamps
  • Live rear monitor
  • Reversing camera
  • Rear defogger
  • Rear washer and wiper
  • Automatic headlamps
  • Automatic AC
  • Keyless entry with push-button start/stop
  • Cruise control
  • Rear window sunshade
  • Rear parcel tray
  • Rear USB charger
  • Stylish wheel covers (which look like alloys)
  • LED tail lamps
  • Roof rails
  • Chrome grille
  • Metal inside door handles

This variant offers a lot of functional features and a few style features as well. This could be a great buy for someone who values functional features more than style and is on a budget. But considering the huge price gap between the EX and S variant, it’s safe to say that it’s grossly overpriced and we can’t recommend it.

Is SX Variant Of The 2020 Hyundai Creta Petrol Worth Buying?

The SX variant is another Rs. 1.74 lakh dearer than the S variant. It costs Rs. 13.46 lakh (ex-showroom). Notable additions for that price hike include:

  • Rear disc brakes
  • Electronic stability control
  • Hill start assist
  • Security alarm
  • LED headlamps
  • Puddle lamps
  • Bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen
  • Bluelink technology (Read more about it here: 2020 Hyundai Creta Bluelink Technology Features Explained)
  • Auto-folding outside mirrors
  • Rear armrest
  • Headrest cushion
  • Reclining rear seat
  • Wireless phone charger
  • LED inside lamps
  • Adjustable rear headrests
  • 17-inch alloy wheels
  • LED DRLs
  • Chrome door handles
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Ambient lighting

The SX variant not justifies the premium over the S variant, it also picks up the slack left by the S variant and makes up for the price gap between the EX and SX trims. This is the most value for money variant in the 2020 Creta petrol lineup. This is also the only variant, which is available with every possible engine and transmission combination offered with the Creta.

Is SX Automatic Variant Of The 2020 Hyundai Creta Petrol Worth Buying?

The Creta SX 1.5 petrol is also available with the automatic transmission for an added premium of Rs. 1.48 lakh over the SX manual. The SX automatic retails for Rs. 14.94 lakh.

In addition to the automatic transmission, it also offers:

  • Electronic parking brake
  • Traction control modes
  • Air purifier
  • Drive modes
  • Paddle shifter (to manually choose a higher or lower ratio on the transmission)

The additional features over the SX manual cover the price gap nicely and make it worth buying if you want the Creta with a petrol engine and an automatic transmission.

Is SX Turbo Automatic Variant Of The 2020 Hyundai Creta Petrol Worth Buying?

If you’re not satisfied with the performance of the SX automatic, you can also go for the SX turbo automatic. It adds a few horses, a lot of bottom-end torque and a quick-shifting 7-speed dual-clutch automatic for a premium of Rs. 1.22 lakh over the SX CVT. Its ex-showroom price is Rs. 16.16 lakh.

Besides the performance, it gets mostly cosmetic upgrades to announce that this is the most powerful Creta. Features include mostly black accents with contrasting elements in the cabin and on the body, metallic pedals, grey alloy wheels and black dual-tone roof. For the performance-hungry among you, this is a good option but note that dual-clutch automatic transmissions don’t have a track record for proven long-term reliability.

Is SX (O) Automatic Variant Of The 2020 Hyundai Creta Petrol Worth Buying?

At Rs. 16.15 lakh, the SX (O) variant with normal petrol automatic is Rs. 1.21 lakh more expensive than the SX automatic. This variant adds a few safety, functional and style features for a luxurious experience. The list includes:

  • 4 extra airbags
  • Auto-dimming inside mirror
  • Premium tyre-pressure monitoring system
  • 8-speaker Bose music system
  • 8-inch full-colour instrument console
  • Ventilated front seats
  • 8-way power-adjustable driver seat with memory
  • 17-inch machined alloy wheels
  • Leather seats

For the luxurious touches and added safety, we leave it up to you to decide if you want to upgrade to this variant. But note that, this variant doesn’t offer similar value-for-money as the SX variant.

Is SX (O) Turbo Automatic Variant Of The 2020 Hyundai Creta Petrol Worth Buying?

Compared to the SX turbo automatic, the SX (O) turbo automatic is Rs. 1.04 lakh more expensive at Rs. 17.2 lakh. The price gap here is lesser than between the SX CVT and SX (O) CVT. So, SX (O) turbo automatic is an even better deal than the SX (O) automatic.

It gets the same cosmetic features as the SX turbo to differentiate itself. It also gets the same functional features as the SX (O) CVT automatic. It’s worth upgrading over the SX turbo automatic if you find these features useful but the SX turbo remains our top pick with this engine for the value if offers.

Verdict - Which Variant Of The 2020 Hyundai Creta Petrol Is The Best Value?

Let’s tackle this question for each engine and transmission combination starting with the manual transmission. The EX is a fantastic starting point for the value it offers. The S variant is a good option considering its features but it’s a terrible value proposition. The SX variant is our top pick for the upmarket experience it offers for the asking price.

If you want the automatic transmission, the SX variant again wins our recommendation easily. The SX (O) is slightly expensive but still worth considering if you want those features.
