Which Variant Of 2020 Tata Tigor Facelift Petrol Is The Most Value For Money?
Tata updated the Tigor sub-compact sedan early this year and it borrowed styling bits from the new Altroz. The updated model was on display at the Auto Expo 2020. Along with the mid life refresh, the car dropped its diesel engine. Now, that it has only a petrol engine, let's dig into the variants, prices and their features to figure out which one offers the best VFM (value for money).

What Are The Prices Of The 2020 Tata Tigor Facelift Petrol?
The Tata Tigor 2020 facelift is only available with a petrol engine. The petrol range of the Tata Tigor facelift with the manual transmission costs between Rs. 5.75 and 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom). An automatic transmission is available in XM and XZ Plus variants, which cost Rs. 6.6 and 7.49 lakh, respectively.

What Are The Engine Specifications Of The 2020 Tata Tigor Facelift Petrol?
The 2020 Tata Tigor facelift retains the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine. The 1.1-litre diesel engine is not available after the update. The Tigor’s petrol engine has the second-lowest torque output but it peaks at just 3300rpm - sooner than the rest of the sub-compact sedans. So, it should offer good drivability in the city. Its power output is better than only the Hyundai Aura’s normal petrol engine. In terms of power and torque, the Aura turbo remains at the top.
Just like the power and torque, the fuel efficiency figures are also middle-of-the-pack at 19kmpl. The Dzire has the best - almost diesel-like - fuel efficiency of 24.12kmpl with the automatic and 23.26kmpl with the manual. Transmission options with the Tigor petrol include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT automatic.

What Are The Dimensions Of The 2020 Tata Tigor Facelift Petrol?
The Tata Tigor is the tallest in its class and has almost as large a boot capacity as the Honda Amaze. The Tigor’s boot space of 419 litres is only 1 litre smaller than the Amaze’s 420-litre boot. However, in the real world, the Tigor may offer better storage capacity as it has hydraulic struts for the boot lid. These don’t intrude inside the boot cavity as the C hinges do. In fact, even larger sedans 2 segments up don’t offer this feature.
In terms of wheelbase, it’s on par with the class but a little behind the Aspire and Amaze. Longer wheelbase liberates knee room in the rear seats. Speaking of cabin space, the Dzire is the widest in its segment by quite a margin while the Tigor is the narrowest. A wider cabin offers better shoulder room.

2020 Tata Tigor Facelift Petrol - XE MT Variant
The Tigor’s base XE variant costs Rs. 5.75 lakh (ex-showroom). It gets only the most basic safety and functional features like airbags, ABS, parking sensors, digital MID, tilt steering and manual AC. Since the XM variant doesn’t cost too much over the XE variant but adds a good number of must-have features, we’d suggest you upgrade to the XM variant if you can. The XE is just too bare bones to feel like an upgrade if you already have another car.

2020 Tata Tigor Facelift Petrol - XM MT & AT Variants
The XM variant of Tigor costs Rs. 6.1 lakh, which is Rs. 35,000 more than the XE variant. Major additions include a central locking, music system, day/night mirror, power windows and wheel covers. While this variant barely justifies the price jump, it covers the basics pretty well. So, even if you’re on a tight budget, we’d suggest you get the XM variant.

If you want the Tigor with an automatic transmission, the XMA AMT is your most affordable option at Rs. 6.6 lakh, which is Rs. 50,000 more than the XM MT variant. For budget buyers, who want an automatic transmission, the Tigor XMA is a decent choice. But, if you can stretch your budget, then consider getting the XZA Plus variant.
2020 Tata Tigor Facelift Petrol - XZ MT Variant
The Tigor XZ petrol variant costs Rs. 6.5 lakh, which is Rs. 40,000 more than the XM variant. For that sum, notable feature additions include:
- Fog lamps
- Steering-mounted controls
- Rear armrest
- Flippy remote key
- Power-adjustable outside mirrors
- Electric boot unlocking
These features add to the upmarket feel of the car but the price jump is not justifiable for these. Consider stretching for the XZ Plus variant or settle for the XM.

2020 Tata Tigor Facelift Petrol - XZ Plus MT & AT Variants
The range-topping XZ Plus variant of the Tigor costs Rs. 6.99 lakh with the manual transmission. It’s about Rs. 50,000 more expensive than the XZ variant. For the additional price, notable additions include:
- Touchscreen music system
- Android and Apple connectivity
- Projector headlamps
- LED DRLs
- Rear camera
- Rear defogger
- Automatic AC
- Height adjustable driver seat
- Power-folding outside mirrors
- 15-inch machined alloy wheels
- Keyless entry and push-button start
This variant punches above its weight and offers the best value for money for the incremental price jump over any other variant of the Tigor petrol.

If you’re interested in the automatic transmission, then again, we’d recommend the XZA Plus variant for its amazing value for money quotient in the tigor lineup. The XZA Plus AMT costs another Rs. 50,000 over the XZ Plus variant and costs Rs. 7.49 lakh. It’s Rs. 89,000 more expensive than the XMA automatic and it easily justifies spending that additional sum.
Which Variant Of The 2020 Tata Tigor Facelift Petrol Is The Best Value For Money?
The XE variant is too basic even for budget buyers. So, we’d suggest upgrading to the XM variant if you can. Although the XM variant doesn’t justify the premium for the features, it covers the basic needs much better than the XE variant. Hence, XM and XMA are suitable for budget buyers.
The XZ variant, again, doesn’t add enough value for the money features to qualify for our recommendation. The XZ Plus, with the automatic and manual transmission, is the best value for money options in the Tigor petrol lineup.
