Lately, several car manufacturers are offering their new cars with a dual-clutch automatic transmission or DCT. The latest mass-market car to get a DCT transmission is the Tata Altroz. While DCTs are now more polished and reliable than ever before, the earlier versions were notorious for failing in our conditions, causing owners to spend a hefty sum for repairs. Gradually, cars equipped with unreliable DCTs lost favour with customers before being pulled off the market altogether.

Skoda today launched the Rapid Matte Edition at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 11.99 lakh for the petrol manual and Rs. 13.49 lakh for the petrol automatic. Director of Skoda India, Zac Hollis, has categorically denied the possibility of Rapid CNG. He confirmed to a potential customer that the Rapid CNG is not even in Skoda’s pipeline.

Replying to a user on Twitter, Zac Hollis, Director - ŠKODA AUTO India, confirmed that the Rapid successor will be bigger than the current model and will also be positioned above it. He said, “ We will not launch a facelifted Rapid in India. We will launch an all-new Sedan at the end of this year. It will be larger than Rapid and positioned above it.”

Skoda launched the Rapid Rider back in May 2020 but stopped accepting its bookings in September 2020 in order to cope with its high demand. Now, Skoda has relaunched the base-spec Rapid Rider and it is priced at Rs 7.79 lakh, at a premium of Rs 30,000 over its launch price of Rs 7.49 lakh (ex-showroom India).
