Skoda And Volkswagen Model Year Updates

For 2024, we expect Skoda and Volkswagen to update their current sedans and SUVs, including the Skoda Slavia and Kushaq, and the Volkswagen Virtus to keep them fresh in the face of rising competition from other manufacturers. The Skoda Kushaq and Slavia were launched in 2021 and 2022, respectively. While they are not old enough to receive a major facelift, we could expect them to receive a few minor revisions to the features list of these sedans and SUVs. We expect Volkswagen to launch various special editions of the Virtus, like the recently launched Sound Edition, that offer more value for your money over the standard variants. Meanwhile, both Skoda and Volkswagen have announced price hikes for the Slavia, Kuhaq, Virtus and Taigun, respectively. You can read more about them below.

Skoda could also enter the Indian EV segment in 2024 by launching the Enyaq iV electric SUV in the second half of 2024. Spy shots of the Enyaq undergoing tests emerged online all throughout 2023, raising speculation of its Indian market introduction. The Enyaq EV is likely to come to India via the CBU route. In global markets, it comes with 3 battery pack options – 52kWh, 58kWh and 77kWh. Skoda’s electric crossover is available with both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configuration and offers a claimed range of up to 510km per charge.

In a similar vein, Volkswagen could enter the EV segment by introducing the ID.4 electric crossover in the country. The ID.4 sits on VW’s MEB platform, which also underpins other vehicles like the Skoda Enyaq iV above. We are likely to get the dual-motor version of the ID.4 with all-wheel drive as it can better challenge the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5. The ID.4 with the all-wheel-drive comes with a 77kWh battery pack. Its twin electric motors offer a power output of 265PS and a WLTP-certified range of 517km on a single charge. The ID.4 can do 0-100kmph in 6.9 seconds while its top speed is limited to 180kmph. Volkswagen also offer rear-wheel-drive variants of the ID.4 but we do not expect them to bring them to India.

Volkswagen Taigun Facelift

Taigun Facelift

The VW Taigun C-segment SUV was launched in India in 2021. In 2023, Volkswagen revealed the new T-Cross SUV, which is closely related to the Taigun, for international markets. With ever-increasing competition in the C-SUV segment, Volkswagen could give its Taigun a mild facelift along the lines of the T-Cross’ new design. While the engine and transmission options are likely to remain the same as the current model, the Taigun facelift could get a few additional features, including ADAS, to take on the upcoming Hyundai Creta facelift.
