Tata Likely To Showcase Punch EV SUV At Auto Expo 2023

Tata India are likely to showcase the Punch EV SUV at the Auto Expo 2023. Let’s discuss the details like expected dimensions and engine specs, expected launch timeline, rivals and expected price of the Tata Punch EV.

Tata Punch EV

Most Notable Features Of Tata Punch EV

The most notable feature of the Tata Punch EV is its electric drivetrain. We expect Tata Motors to offer the Punch EV with a 28kWh battery pack. Therefore, it will slot perfectly between the Tiago EV and Altroz EV. The Tiago EV comes with 2 battery pack options — 19.2kWh and 24kWh and the Nexon EV also comes with 2 battery pack options — 30.2kWh and 40.5kWh. We won’t be surprised if Tata Motors offer a choice of 2 battery packs with the Punch EV as well.

In terms of features, the Punch EV will get a touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car technology, drive modes, multi-level regenerative braking, a semi-digital instrument cluster, 6 airbags, automatic climate control, drive modes and cruise control.

Like the Nexon EV, Tigor EV and Tiago EV, the all-electric Punch SUV will feature an enclosed front grille with blue highlights and aero wheel caps to improve its aerodynamics. Inside, we can expect it to get leather seats, blue accents in the cabin and cruise control.

We expect Tata Motors to offer the Punch EV long range version with a 28kWh battery pack. It should give the Punch EV a driving range of over 300km on a full charge. For reference, the Tigor EV long range version’s 24kWh battery pack gives it a range of 306km. The Punch is likely to feature the same 55kW permanent magnet synchronous electric motor as the Tiago EV and Tigor EV. Hence, it’s power and torque figures are likely to be the same as sub-compact hatchback and sedan at around 74PS and 114Nm, respectively.

Tata Punch EV Rivals

The Tata Punch EV will serve as a slightly more expensive alternative to the Tiago EV and Tigor EV within Tata’s electric vehicle lineup. It will be a good choice for those who want an affordable EV but require a higher ground clearance and a better view of the road than the all-electric Tiago and Tigor. The Tata Punch EV will also take on the upcoming Citroen C3 electric SUV, which was spotted testing recently.

Tata Punch EV Launch Timeline

While we do not have a concrete timeline for the launch of the Punch EV, we can say that it will arrive in the second half of 2023. Since the ICE version of the Altroz hatchback went on sale before the Punch SUV, we can expect Tata to introduce the Altroz EV ahead of the Punch EV.

Tata Punch EV Expected Price

We expect Tata Motors to price the Punch EV in the range of Rs. 11.23 lakh and Rs. 13.97 lakh ex-showroom. We arrived at these expected prices by calculating the difference between the prices of the Nexon EV Prime, Nexon EV Max, Tiago EV and Tigor EV with their petrol counterparts.
