Hyundai Aura Vs Maruti Suzuki Baleno - Engine Specs, Dimension, Feature Comparison

Let’s compare the engine specs, dimensions, features and estimated prices to see which car you should buy - Hyundai Aura or Maruti Suzuki Baleno.

Hyundai Aura vs Maruti Suzuki Baleno - Dimensions Comparison

The Hyundai Aura and Maruti Baleno are equally long and have a similar height. The Baleno shines with a considerably wider body and a longer wheelbase. So, 3 adult passengers in the backseat will be more comfortable in the Baleno.

Maruti Baleno

At the same time, that longer wheelbase eats up the Baleno’s boot space a little bit. This is where the Aura gets the upper hand.

Hyundai Aura vs Maruti Suzuki Baleno - Petrol Engine Spec Comparison

The Hyundai Aura’s 1.2-litre normal petrol engine is on par with Maruti Baleno’s 1.2-litre petrol engine. They both make 83PS of power at 6000rpm and offer similar torque figures at about the same RPM. They’re both available with a 5-speed manual transmission too. The Aura’s normal petrol engine is available with a cost-effective 5-speed AMT automatic. The Maruti Baleno has a more polished CVT automatic, but it comes at a (higher) cost - literally.

Both of these engines have been around for a long time and have a proven reliability record. The Maruti Suzuki’s engine just edges out a teeny bit with a slightly better fuel efficiency figure.

Hyundai Aura

Besides the normal petrol engine, the Hyundai Aura is also available with 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor. It makes a healthy 100PS of power and 172Nm of torque between 1500 and 4000rpm. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno has a frugal hybrid option with 90PS of power but a similar torque output as the non-hybrid engine. None of these engines is available with an automatic transmission. The electric motor’s assisted torque should help make the Baleno hybrid easier to drive in the city but if you want to have some fun, the Aura should be your pick.

The two cars are evenly-matched as long as we’re comparing their normal petrol engines. We’d hand the award to the Hyundai Aura as it offers substantially better power and torque output with its turbo engine. The Maruti’s hybrid doesn’t offer a huge fuel efficiency advantage to justify the price jump over the normal petrol engine.

Hyundai Aura vs Maruti Baleno - Diesel Engine Spec Comparison

When comparing the Hyundai Aura and the Maruti Baleno’s diesel engines, it’s clear right from the start which one will win this. The two cars have similar power and torque ratings but the Aura has a flatter peak torque curve. Meanwhile, it also has a 5-speed AMT besides the 5-speed manual transmission. The Baleno is also likely to lose its diesel engine as Maruti officials have confirmed that they’re not going to upgrade it to the BS6 standards. The only redeemable quality of the Baleno’s diesel engine is its higher fuel efficiency figure.
