Maruti recently launched the automatic variants of the Swift CNG with a starting price of Rs. 7.92 lakh. The CNG automatic variants are Rs. 79,500 more expensive than their direct petrol automatic counterparts but promise lower running cost. We use current Delhi fuel prices and Maruti’s claimed mileage figures to calculate the distance required to recover the higher upfront cost.

The 2026 Maruti Arena Swift CNG AMT has a claimed mileage of 35.34kmpkg while the petrol AMT has a claimed mileage of 25.75kmpl.
For these calculations, we used the Delhi fuel prices at the time of publishing: Rs. 102.12 per litre for petrol and Rs. 86.98 per kg for CNG. Check out the V3Cars fuel price tool to check the latest fuel price in your city.
Based on these figures, the Swift CNG AMT saves Rs. 1.51 per km compared to the petrol automatic version. Therefore, every 1000km in the CNG version saves approximately Rs. 1,510 in fuel costs.
The CNG Automatic model costs Rs. 79,500 more than the respective petrol automatic model. The CNG version also saves approximately Rs. 1.51 each KM it runs. With this data, we can calculate the distance it would need to run to recover the additional cost paid upfront.
Since the price premium is identical across all 3 variants, each Swift CNG AMT requires around 52,800km to recover its additional upfront cost. At 1500km per month, this would take approximately 2.9 years.
Here is a quick comparison of the engine and transmission of the 2026 Maruti Arena Swift:
The engine produces around 13PS and 10Nm less in the CNG mode. However, it delivers its peak torque 1600rpm earlier than it does in petrol mode. Drivers have the choice of selecting gears manually using the transmission lever.
The Swift CNG is equipped with a CNG tank of 55-litre water filling capacity. But unlike the updated Brezza, which mounts its CNG cylinder below the body, the Swift gets the cylinder inside the boot. The AMT improves convenience in traffic, but it does not solve the practicality disadvantage of the conventional single-cylinder CNG layout.
Maruti have equipped the Swift with integrated wiring, stainless-steel pipes and joints, and an interlock that prevents the engine from starting during CNG refuelling.
The CNG automatic is available in 3 Swift variants - VXi, VXi (O) and ZXi. The sole competitor to the Swift CNG AMT is the Tata Tiago iCNG AMT. The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is also available in CNG but does not offer an automatic transmission as of now.
The Swift CNG AMT is better suited to buyers with high annual running. Its Rs. 79,500 higher price takes around 52,800km to recover through fuel savings alone. That works out to about 4.4 years at 1000km per month, 2.9 years at 1500km per month, or 2.2 years at 2000km per month.
Buyers with lower monthly running may take too long to recover the CNG premium to justify it on fuel savings alone. The petrol AMT also costs less upfront, offers higher power and torque, and retains more usable boot space. The CNG AMT makes a stronger case for buyers who cover longer distances regularly and plan to keep the car long enough to benefit from its lower running cost.
