    1.28 Lakh Vehicles Sold By Maruti Suzuki In December

    Maruti Suzuki India Limited sold a total of 128,338 units in December 2018 including 121,479 units in domestic market and 6,859 units of exports. This means that the automaker has reportedly sold 1.3 per cent less vehicles compared to 1.3 lakh units sold in same month last year. Though, the domestic sales grew by 1.8 per cent year- on- year to 1.21 lakh units, but exports fell sharply by 36.4 per cent to 6,859 units compared to year- ago period.

    The passenger cars sales at 83,729 units fell by 4.7 per cent year- on- year as mini segment (Alto and WagonR) and compact car segment (Swift, Ignis, Dzire, Baleno etc) registered 14 per cent and 3.8 per cent de- growth compared to the sales of 2017. In the utility vehicle segment, the S- Cross, Vitara Brezza and Ertiga cumulatively increased 4.9 per cent and vans segment registered a whopping 38.8 per cent on year growth driven by Eeco. Sales of Ciaz almost doubled, while demand for Vitara Brezza SUV and Ertiga minivan increased 4.9 per cent. Sales of Maruti's compact cars such as Swift and Baleno fell 3.8 per cent, while that of mini cars Wagon R and Alto declined 14 per cent, the company said. Maruti sold 1,675 units of Super Carry models, higher by 130.7 per cent compared to the same in 2017, under light commercial vehicles segment.

    The Indian subsidiary of the Japanese automaker, Maruti Suzuki fell 0.49 per cent to Rs 7426 at 10:30 IST on BSE after the company announced their total sales report. The announcement was made during trading hours today, 1 January 2019, while the S&P BSE Sensex was down 82.04 points, or 0.23 per cent to 35,986.29. Recently, Maruti’s Swift won the coveted 2018 Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) Award in December beating strong contenders like Amaze, CR- V, Santro, Alturas G4, Marazzo, Yaris, and its own sibling, the Ertiga.

    However, if we talk about the monthly sales report for December 2018, the car maker has registered sales of 121,479 units in the domestic market last month. This when compared to sales registered in Dec 2017, is a marginal increase of 1.8 per cent when the company sold 119,286 units. Maruti Suzuki India started the year with a double digit growth, but since the last few months, there has not been any noticeable growth in sales for the automaker. Currently, Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch the next- gen Wagon R in the Indian market on 23rd January 2019.


    Recently, the images of the new Wagon R have been leaked on the internet ahead of its official launch. The leaked images show that the new model comes with signature Maruti's grille with Suzuki emblem at the centre and wraparound headlamps, chrome treatment on the grille looking similar to that of Ignis. The prominent features expected on the hatchback include a SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system, which will be compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and seat- belt reminder will be offered as standard.

    Under the hood, the next- gen Wagon R will come powered by the same 1- liter, 3- cylinder K- Series petrol engine churning out 67 bhp of maximum power and 90 Nm of peak torque. The engine will continue to come mated to a 5- speed manual or AMT gearbox and is slated to be offered with CNG- Petrol and LPG- Petrol dual fuel options in selected markets as well. The current version of the Wagon R comes priced between Rs 4.18 lakh and Rs 5.39 lakh (ex- showroom, Delhi). When launched, the next- gen Maruti Suzuki Wagon R will continue to take against the likes of the Tata Tiago, Renault Kwid and Hyundai Santro in the segment.
