The Renault Kwid entry-level hatchback model has been a great success in the Indian car market, and a real game changer for the French automaker in a segment that is fully ruled by India’s top car maker Maruti Suzuki. Nevertheless, the Kwid’s sales rates have witnessed a dip lately, as the entry-level hatch segment of India is highly competitive. Renault is thus, readying the new updated Kwid model.
The 2018 Renault Kwid facelift model has been caught by the spy shutterbugs in a dealer stockyard, which indicates that the updated Kwid is expected to launch in the Indian market very soon. The French automaker has endowed a few styling updates and additional new features on the updated Kwid to keep customer interest fresh. The Renault Kwid small hatch was first launched in India in September 2015, however this is not the mid-life refresh for the model.
The updated new Kwid will be coming with subtle and mild exterior styling changes, which includes a new chrome appliqué on the front radiator grille and new ‘Kwid’ decals on the doors as the spy pics suggest. The ORVMs and the wheel caps have been finished in a new dark gunmetal shade for a sporty appeal and are likely to be offered on select variants and with few body color options.
On the inside, the new Renault Kwid facelift will be coming with chrome finished door handles and a charging port for the rear passengers. The 7 inch infotainment system comes with an added feature of relaying feed from the rear parking camera to offer ease during parking. The rear camera of the car has been concealed within the between the company’s diamond logo, as is the case with the Kwid’s Brazilian version.
However, most of the mentioned features updates are expected to be offered only on the top of the range RXL variants as well as the Kwid Climber edition model. Also, the Kwid Climber edition might not get the exterior updates and continue with the existing look without any variations and only offer interior feature updates.
In terms of under the hood mechanical specifications, the 2018 Renault Kwid is not expected to receive any changes and will likely carry forward the same engine choices, namely the 0.8 litre and the 1.0 litre engine options. The 1.0L version will continue to come in its AMT gearbox option as well.
Renault is also expected to add a creep function to the Kwid AMT version in the updated model. The Kwid’s Japanese cousin Datsun redi-GO that shares its powertrain with the Kwid, comes with the handy creep function which allows the car to crawl ahead in Drive mode without the accelerator, which is very similar to the conventional automatics. The creep function is especially beneficial during bumper-to-bumper traffic conditions, when the car can slowly roll forward without the usage of the accelerator, as speed is not required in such situations.
As the Renault Kwid facelift is not actually coming with any significant exterior updates, the car might not get a price hike, at least for the lower trim models, while the top-end model with added new features might come with a minor price increased.
